The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Bern invites applications for a
Professor inClimate Impacts on Public Health (Assistant Professor Tenure Track or Associate Professor, 100%)
The professorship and its research group are part of the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine (ISPM; https://www.ispm.unibe.ch/) and affiliated with the Oeschger Centre for Climate Change Research (OCCR; https://www.oeschger.unibe.ch/), University of Bern, Switzerland. The ISPM is a leading institute at the Faculty of Medicine with an outstanding national and international reputation for excellence in research, methodology and teaching, and conducts interdisciplinary research in Public Health. The OCCR is an internationally renowned research centre at the University of Bern engaged in interdisciplinary climate science at the intersections of natural, social, economic, legal and health sciences with about 30 professors from five faculties. Together, they offer a stimulating, supportive and inclusive environment to carry out world-leading research.Candidates hold a PhD or MD in environmental epidemiology, Public Health, biostatistics, or a related field. They have a demonstrated record of high-profile disciplinary and interdisciplinary research in the field. The successful candidate will develop a competitive, internationally recognized research program, acquire extramural funding, assume leadership in the field of climate and health, supervise PhD students, engage in community service, and contribute to teaching at all levels at the Medical Faculty and the Graduate School of Climate Sciences. The research will quantify climate change impacts and extremes on human physical and mental health in the built environment and will focus on vulnerable groups from the local and regional to the global scales. Of particular interest is the development of scenarios for, and assessment of, climate-related health risks. The professor has the ambition to closely collaborate with members of the ISPM and the OCCR, and with stakeholders from the Swiss Federal Administration and the private sector. The position offers the opportunity to closely collaborate with the insurance sector.
