Position Description:

The English Department at the University of Louisville invites applications for a specialist in Composition studies who would serve as a full-time, non-tenure-track Assistant Professor Term (Open Rank beginning August 1, 2024. Areas of specialty are open, although we are especially interested in faculty with expertise in second language writing and/or inclusive pedagogies.
This position carries a 4/4 load. The initial appointment would be for one year with the possibility of renewal, contingent on work performance and college budget.
The majority of courses this lecturer would teach would be English 101, 102, and 105 (Honors), all of which satisfy the Written Communication requirement in our general education program (UofL’s "Cardinal Core”). However, courses in scientific and technical writing, business and professional writing, and public writing are also a possibility.
The English Department is a vibrant community of teacher-scholars, home to the Watson Conference on Rhetoric and Composition, the Louisville Conference on Literature and Culture, and the Axton Reading Series. The Composition Program offers regular pedagogy workshops and mini-courses and sponsors Cardinal Compositions, an open-access journal of student writing.
Minimum qualifications: master’s degree and graduate coursework in Composition, rhetoric, and writing studies, although a doctorate in Composition, rhetoric, and writing (or related field) is preferred. Position will be filled at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor as determined by the candidates qualifications.

The teaching portfolio should contain a statement of teaching philosophy; syllabi and major assignment sheets for two composition courses, one of which is a research-writing course; and examples of feedback on student writing.
