The Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy of the University of Freiburg invites applications for a
Full Professorship (W3) for Pharmaceutical Biology and Biotechnology
at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Science to be filled as soon as possible.
This professorship is also particularly suitable for highly qualified early career researchers.
The Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy at the University of Freiburg is seeking applications from qualified applicants for a W3 Professorship in Pharmaceutical Biology and Biotechnology at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Science.
The future holder of the position should have his/her scientific focus on the investigation of bacterial pathogens, especially Mycobacteria, as well as the development of modern drugs to combat them. Research priorities should include the exploration of bacterial protein compartments and their engineering, for example, for applications in drug release and transport. Furthermore, membrane proteins are to be examined as drug targets or drug transporters. The development and synthesis of novel antibiotics, such as light-activatable compounds with targeting functions, can be another focal point. It is expected that this professorship will contribute to further shaping the profile of the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy and the University, especially in the field of bio-inspired materials (Cluster of Excellence LivMatS) and/or biological signal studies (Cluster of Excellence CIBSS) through their research. Close scientific inter- and intra-disciplinary cooperation and connections to the research approaches of the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy are desired.
A prerequisite for the appointment is that a funding application for a Heisenberg professorship submitted by the appointee to the DFG is positively reviewed.
Prerequisites for the employment of Professors are a university degree, an outstanding dissertation and an excellent publication record. Substantial achievements and experience in academic research and teaching, at the level of a Habilitation according to the German academic system, are expected.
