Roche Postdoctoral Fellow (RPF) in Protein Engineering and Cell Surface Display of Bi- and Multispecific Antibodies (m/f/d)
In Roche’s Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development organisation (pRED), we make transformative medicines for patients in order to tackle some of the world’s toughest unmet healthcare needs. At pRED, we are united by our mission to transform science into medicines. Together, we create a culture defined by curiosity, responsibility and humility, where our talented people are empowered and inspired to bring forward extraordinary life-changing innovation at speed.
This position is located in the Lead Identification Department within the Large Molecule Research unit, where the discovery and optimization of next generation biotherapeutics is the primary focus. In the Lead Identification department, we employ in vivo and in vitro antibody generation technologies in combination with protein engineering, functional high throughput screening and sophisticated in vitro selection technologies. In close collaboration with our therapeutic areas and functions, we convert hypotheses into innovative medicines.
The Position
We are offering an outstanding opportunity for a Postdoctoral Fellow to work within a highly engaged team of antibody engineering and high throughput assay specialists. You will actively participate in establishing a high throughput functional selection and engineering platform for next generation antibody therapeutics based on cell surface display.
This position, which is open immediately, is sponsored by the Roche Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme. The RPF Programme has the ambition to build and maintain the Scientific Leadership of the future and to provide leading Roche scientists with the opportunity to collaborate with talented postdoctoral researchers, and leading academic research groups, from around the world. One of the key aims is to advance basic science and technologies that will be published in top-rated, peer-reviewed scientific journals, if necessary preceded by priority patent applications.
The duration of this RPF project is initially set for two years, with the possibility of extension for a third year. You will be based in Roche Innovation Center Munich, Penzberg.
Your impact
Implementing a state-of-the-art cell-display platform for lead discovery and functional selection and expanding the scope of applications
Evolving modular cloning approaches for complex antibody-based format libraries in relevant expression and display host cells
Designing and testing of in-silico libraries
Devising innovative ways of early functional and biophysical selection and screening of therapeutic lead candidates
Your profile
You thrive in a dynamic, inclusive environment that gives you full accountability for your own contributions and development. You are dedicated to establishing a culture of mutual support, cross-training, continuous learning and self-organization to meet project and functional goals.
You hold a PhD degree in biotechnology, biochemistry, synthetic biology or a similar area.
You have continuously engaged in scientific research since your PhD and are ready to start an RPF postdoctoral activity no later than 5 years after PhD.
You have excellent analytical, data handling and problem solving skills and a strong passion for science.
You have profound experience with protein engineering, in vitro evolution and display technologies, ideally including yeast and/or mammalian surface display.
You have a solid background in protein biochemistry and molecular biology.
You have ideally already gained experience with protein interaction assays, cell-based reporter assays, flow cytometry and/or microfluidic based single cell screening.
You have strong oral and written communication skills in English.
The planned start date of this fellowship is March 2023, or upon availability. Please include a CV, motivation letter, publication list, and references in your application. Please clearly indicate your preferred start date in your motivation letter.
