Director of Software DevOps and SRE

  

This role has been designed as ‘Hybrid’ with an expectation that you will work on average 2-3 days per week from an HPE office.

Job Definition:

You will be part of an organization focused on revolutionizing and transforming HPE's multi-billion business and instrumental in the Edge to Cloud transformation.


In this role, you will lead a large and multifunctional engineering organization of highly skilled and talented professionals responsible for enabling the success of the HPE GreenLake Cloud Platform. More specifically, the team ensures the reliability, scalability, and efficiency of our technology infrastructure. As a leader in this organization, you will have a proven track record of building and delivering enterprise software and experience using cloud technologies at scale.


The team is fast growing, and you will need to hire, retain and motivate the best talent effectively. You will be working closely with product management, architects, developers, IT, fin-ops, support, and other SMEs and engaging directly with the executive team.


The organization strives to excel in continuous learning and adopting cloud engineering best practices. You will need to embrace and foster this culture and feel comfortable challenging the status quo and driving changes across the board. 

Management Level Definition:

Leads a large or broad function/department within a multifaceted organization. Responsible for operational success, strategic alignment and integration of activities with other major organizational functions. Responsible for one or more recognized professional disciplines. Fully accountable for the success of the designated function or department. Influences strategy and sets policy and direction. Owns a significant number of measurable functional, operational and strategic goals or priorities. Assumes responsibility for the successful implementation of business plans in a defined area of responsibility. Contributes to the overall strategic definition of a function with strong business acumen. Acts as a key advisor to executive management in influencing the strategic direction of the business. Typically reports to VP.

Responsibilities:

  • Hire, lead, coach, and manage a high-performing engineering team
  • Provide strategic leadership for the DevOps and SRE teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Development, IT Operations, and Product Management, to align DevOps and SRE initiatives with organizational goals.
  • Create strategic and tactical operations and resource plans, goals, and priorities based on business and technology roadmap
  • Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of scalable and reliable infrastructure.
  • Drive the automation of processes to streamline deployment, monitoring, and incident response.
  • Actively engage in technical discussions, project execution and incident management to ensure that goals are met or exceeded.
  • Evaluate, select, and implement cutting-edge tools and technologies to enhance the efficiency of the DevOps and SRE teams.
  • Implement best practices for performance monitoring, capacity planning, and incident response.
  • Promote the adoption of industry best practices for cloud development 

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong leadership skills, including coaching, team-building, and conflict resolution. Proven ability to lead/mentor and grow geographically distributed teams across time zones and cultures.
  • Organizational and strategic management skills, including budget and business planning and forecasting.
  • Experience in anticipating operational needs and impact on the business, function, or department.
  • Advanced relationship management skills, including partnering and consulting with senior management and executive roles for internal and external partners.
  • Extensive experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and container orchestration tools (e.g., Kubernetes).
  • In-depth knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, version control systems, and configuration management.
  • Results-oriented, with a proven track record of success technically leading an engineering team.
  • Demonstrated versatility and Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Impact/Scope:

  • Collaborates across functions to deliver multidisciplinary engineering solutions.
  • Typically interacts with high-level Individual Contributors, Managers, Directors, and VPs and SVPs for internal and external suppliers, partners, and customers.
  • Drives large and complex cross-organizational business initiatives.

Complexity:

  • Leads highly-complex multidisciplinary engineering development, support, and improvement activities and organizations.
  • Anticipates operational needs and impact on the business and function or department.

The expected salary/wage range for a U.S.-based hire filling this position is provided below. Actual offer may vary from this range based upon geographic location, work experience, education/training, and/or skill level. If this is a sales role, then the listed salary range reflects combined base salary and target-level sales compensation pay. If this is a non-sales role, then the listed salary range reflects base salary only. Variable incentives may also be offered. Annual Salary: $149,000.00 - $361,500.00
