Product Specialist - Modular Applications

The Global Solution Center for Logistics is located in Huizingen, Belgium and specializes in robot-centric automation solutions for e-commerce, retail, fresh food, non-food and express parcel segments. Our portfolio ranges from robotic products to modular cells, engineered turnkey solutions (like high-bay warehouses or goods to man picking) and lifecycle management services.As part of the Operations Department at the Global Solution Center you will be directly involved in the sales and development of our Modular Applications that are offered as stand-alone solutions or which will be part of larger engineered solutions for ABB end-customers.As Product Specialist you will be our main expert for one or more Modular Applications and the main contact person for Sales, Operations, Supply Chain,etc..You will ensure that all related activities are performed in accordance with technical requirements, validation documents, ABB policy, contractual agreements, quality standards, health, safety & environment requirements, financial targets, as well as schedule commitments.On top of that you can actively contribute to on-going developments by being engaged in sharing lessons learned and best practices to our R&D team.In your role you will work and interface with different stakeholders (both internal as external) and expected to actively provide input and feedback on on-going developments.

Your responsibilities

• Support sales requests and meetings with customer
• Review concepts that are provided by Sales, and determine: If the concept can be executed with a fully standard application cell; If the concept can be executed by using already existing custom (mechanical, electrical, robotics, PLC, software) add-ons; If the concept requires the design/development of new (mechanical, electrical, robotics, PLC, software) add-ons;
• Is the technical POC during Pre-Sales, in order to generate a correct calculation of the project cost price and to create a quotation which contains all required technical information and a validated project planning
• The “architecture” of the concept, with regards to mechanical, electrical, robotics, PLC, software (including UI/UX) scope.
• Create a general understanding of the functionalities of the ABB robotic offering of functional modules and application cells
• Understand interfaces and controllability of the products and how interfaces can be implemented
• Acquire knowledge about the architecture and structure of the products to assess efforts and budgets for the integration of new functionalities and add-ons
• Collaborate with Supply Chain to define the best quality and price suppliers by region
• Collaborate with R&D and OPS team regarding the standard drawings and BOM necessary for producing/ assembling the product in EDP or a LEC
• Coordinate EDPs activities and capacity together with the Ops Transformation manager
• Oversee and challenge the overall production/ assembly/ commissioning efficiency, with the aim of gaining cost savings
• Ensure requirements for ABB global Products are fully met and that Products are adapted to customer needs
• Provide product training (to execution teams)
• Gather and consolidate lessons learned, and provide R&D/Portfolio with input for potential improvements, etc.
• Interface with the product management to create user and product documentations for end-customers, integrators and internal ABB colleagues.

Your background

• Educational background in one of following fields: a bachelor or master degree in applied mechanics/electronics/information technology, industrial mechanics/electronics (or equivalent by experience);
• Strong knowledge of Industrial Automation is an asset (Minimum 3 years’ experience in automation project design, preferably in a logistics environment) ;
• Diverse set of skills across multiple disciplines;
• Have a commercial mindset;
• Solution, pragmatic and hands-on mindset with a creative spirit;
• Able to manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders in ways that promote beneficial working relationships;
• Detail oriented with good analytical and problem-solving skills;
• Team player;
• Able to take framework constraints into account and build creative solutions;
• Willing to work on-site in Belgium at the workshop and 10-20% traveling abroad;
• Fluent in Dutch or French with a strong knowledge of English;
