Assistant/Associate professor in Information Studies

The Department of Design, Media and Educational Science, University of Southern Denmark, Faculty of Humanities, invites applications for positions in Information Studies at the levels of assistant and associate professor. Applicants are asked to state in their letter of application on which level they wish to apply. The position is at SDU Kolding and is available from September 1st 2024. 
The Department of Design, Media and Educational Science is a humanistic department with research in a wide spectrum of areas, from Business Language, Design, Education Sciences, Information Studies, Library Science, Upper Secondary Didactics, Media Science, Organisational Communication, Philosophy, Tourism and Experience Economy, and Web Communication.
We invite applications from a wide variety of subspecialties of Information Studies, including but not limited to the following: digital methodologies, data science, digital curation and preservation, science and technology studies, records management, scholarly communication, open data, scientometrics, information seeking and information retrieval. 
The position involves teaching, particularly in the department's BA program in Library Science, but also within related programs such as the BA program in Information Science, IT and Interaction Design and the Master program in Web Communication. The position involves developing of both new research and study programmes within the fields of information, documentation and web communication as well as Initiation for and participation in applications for external funding.
For applicants for a position of assistant professor, we expect a research track record that shows considerable potential. An appointment as assistant professor lasts for three years, and contingent on successful completion of a lecturer training programme and a positive performance evaluation, a permanent position as associate professor is normally opened, for which the assistant professor can apply.
For applicants for a position of associate professor, we expect a recognized research track record of more than four years after the PhD and demonstrated ability to direct independent research projects and obtain external funding. In addition, applicants are expected to have substantial experience in teaching and supervision. The associate professorship position is a tenured position.

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations), Cirkulære om overenskomst for Akademikere i staten 2019 (the document only exists in Danish).
If the successful applicant has not documented teaching experience corresponding to assistant professor level, the applicant will be employed on trial for the first 18 months.

  • List of publications indicating the publications attached
  • A maximum of 6 of the most relevant publications. Please attach one pdf-file for each publication. For any publication with a co-author, a co-author statement must be submitted as part of the pdf-file 

Applicants for an associate professorship at the Faculty of Humanities are requested to submit a teaching portfolio with the application as documentation for teaching experience as well as supervision qualifications.
 
Application and all appendices must be in Danish, English or one of the Scandinavian languages. Please always include a copy of original diploma/certificates. We only accept files in pdf-format no more than 10 MB per file. In case you have more than one file per field you need to combine the pdf-files into a single file, as each field handles only one file. We do not accept zip-files, jpg or other image files. All pdf-files must be unlocked and allow binding and may not be password protected.
Applications will be assessed by an assessment committee and the applicant will receive the part of the evaluation that concerns him/her. The assessment report will subsequently be forwarded to the Head of Department who will assemble an appointments committee. An interview may form part of the overall assessment of the applicants' qualifications.   
The committee may request additional information, and if so, it is the responsibility of the applicant to provide the necessary material.
If the application does not meet the requirements mentioned above, the Faculty of Humanities may reject your application without further notice. Applications received after the deadline will neither be considered nor evaluated.
