Fulltime position, Start-date: 01.06.2024 Description The Laboratory for Design of Microsystems is looking for an Assistant Professor (Akad. Rat*Rätin auf Zeit) and group manager “Thermoelectrics” with a doctorate and a qualification in the fields of materials science, electrical engineering, microelectronics or microsystems technolog to start from June 01, 2024 or earlier. Research in the field of thermoelectrics offers young scientists numerous development prospects in the areas of modelling, design and production of thermoelectric generators, in process development for their production to material development and material characterization. Innovative 3D printing, electrodeposition and in-situ material synthesis processes are e.g. available for production, while modelling and characterization make use of modern simulation tools and a comprehensive range of methods and instruments. Multidisciplinary cooperation is happening e.g. in the current livMatS cluster of excellence, and is to be continued and further expanded there as well as in other large cooperative projects. We are looking for candidates with a broad education in one or more of the above-mentioned disciplines that match the subject areas of this call. A qualified doctorate and fulfilment of the requirements under German civil service law are required. Further requirements include the willingness for developing an own research profile with international visibility, for project acquisition and management in a national and international environment, for the build-up and running of a research team of typically five PhD students and for an active participation in university self-administration. Tasks include teaching to the extent of four ouers (4 SWS) per week. The possibility of habilitation is given in accordance with the habilitation regulations of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Freiburg. This position is initially limited to three years with the possibility of renewal upto a total of six years, given a success within the tasks described above.
