The Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT, Europe's leading center for contract research and development in the field of laser technology, is looking for a research assistant in the field of additive manufacturing using laser material deposition (LMD).
The LMD process is based on the layer-by-layer melting of a supplied metallic material using laser radiation and the subsequent solidification of the deposited material. As part of projects with partners from industry and research, the LMD department at the ILT is working on a wide range of applications for laser material deposition, such as coating complex material systems, repairing cost-intensive components and additive manufacturing (3D printing) of complete components.
What you will do
- Literature research / familiarisation with process technology
- Independent planning and realisation of test experiments
- Analysing and documenting the experimental results (e.g. metallography, hardness tests, 3D scan)
- Internal presentation of your results
What you bring to the table
- Knowledge of laser technology and additive manufacturing or experience with programming languages is advantageous, but not essential
- Interest in solving technical problems
- Motivated, independent and structured way of working

The weekly working time is 14 hours.
The position is initially limited to 6 months, after which it can be extended.
