Jobbeschreibung

The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (www.fraunhofer.com) currently operates 76 institutes and research institutions throughout Germany and is the world’s leading applied research organization. Around 30 000 employees work with an annual research budget of 2.9 billion euros.

Fraunhofer IKTS conducts application-oriented research for advanced ceramics. The three locations in Dresden and Hermsdorf (Thuringia) form the largest ceramics research institute in Europe. As a research and technology service provider, we develop modern ceramic high-performance materials, industry-relevant manufacturing processes as well as prototype components and systems in complete production lines up to pilot scale. In addition, the portfolio includes the competencies of materials diagnostics and testing.

The in Forchheim (Germany) based research group "Correlative Microscopy and Materials Data" develops advanced and tailored microscopy and spectroscopy workflows for scale-bridging (from macro to nano) and multimodal analysis of biological materials, high-performance ceramic materials, and battery materials. For this purpose, we are looking for immediate reinforcement by a scientifically experienced employee in the context of characterization of different battery systems.

What you will do

You will characterize battery materials (single components and coin or pouch cells) with modern microscopic and spectroscopic methods, including in-operando analysis. Our research includes different battery types (for example LiB and ASSB).

What you bring to the table

You have successfully completed a scientific university degree (preferably with a PhD) in the fields of materials science, physics, electrical engineering or comparable and have a deep understanding of the operation of modern battery systems, such as Li-ion batteries, solid state batteries, stationary storage or similar. Ideally, you already have broad experience in the analysis of nano- and microscopic material systems related to battery technology. Furthermore, you are familiar with established analytical methods, such as FIB-SEM, XRM, Raman, AFM, TOF-SIMS, and have successfully performed these in the past for targeted sample analysis. Applications with motivation to pursue a PhD are also welcome.

In addition, the following competencies and skills round out your profile:

  • Familiarity with the experimental handling of complex analytical machines
  • Knowledge of electrochemistry and electrochemical measurement methods such as impedance spectroscopy, cell cycling, cyclic voltametry and stripping/plating measurements
  • Skills in data analysis using commercial software solutions or self-written evaluation tools and in the subsequent preparation of the data for presentation at conferences or in internal seminars
  • Structured and largely independent work in challenging research projects fascinates you

  • High willingness to communicate and the ability to work constructively in interdisciplinary teams

What you can expect

We offer you an exciting and interdisciplinary working environment with responsibility and room for your ideas in an excellently equipped research institute with close links to large regional and international industrial companies and academic institutions. You will be part of a young, heterogeneous and interdisciplinary team consisting of physicists, biologists, material scientists, computer scientists and data specialists and will have the opportunity to actively support the strategic development of Fraunhofer IKTS.

In addition, we offer the following benefits to our employees:

  • Support in the area of child care as well as day care centers close to the institute.
  • Flextime
  • Individual development and career opportunities
  • Various opportunities for further qualification
  • Company pension plan
  • Participation in job ticket
  • Support offers for the compatibility of family and career

We value and promote the diversity of our employees' skills and therefore welcome all applications - regardless of age, gender, nationality, ethnic and social origin, religion, ideology, disability, sexual orientation and identity. Severely disabled persons are given preference in the event of equal suitability.

The weekly working time is 39 hours.

The position is initially limited to 2 years and can also be filled on a part-time basis.

We would like to point out that the chosen job title also includes the third gender.

The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft attaches great importance to professional equality irrespective of gender.

Appointment, remuneration and social security benefits based on the public-sector collective wage agreement (TVöD).

With its focus on developing key technologies that are vital for the future and enabling the commercial utilization of this work by business and industry, Fraunhofer plays a central role in the innovation process. As a pioneer and catalyst for groundbreaking developments and scientific excellence, Fraunhofer helps shape society now and in the future.
