The purpose of the Tesla Brandenburg Casting and Plastics organization is to facilitate the Tesla mission of accelerating the world to sustainable transportation via identification, development and insertion of advanced materials and processes while supporting other Tesla Engineering functions with materials & processes expertise.
The Tesla Brandenburg Casting and Plastics teams are seeking a Project manager to plan, interact, lead, and execute projects from cradle to insertion.
Primary function will be to lead Casting projects.
In this role, the Project Manager will be responsible for the following:
- Develop and manage engineering development schedules across all projects in the program, including development, testing, and manufacturing projects
- Gather and communicate timing and delivery requirements for all tasks
- Create schedules to understand work stream dependencies and sequencing
- Track key milestones and decision points, and ensure they are communicated to the team
- Track and prioritize program and product risks in an organized and methodical way (JIRA, Confluence, etc.)
- Coordinate parallel path efforts as contingency planning for high-risk designs
- Organize logistics of group conference calls, on-site meetings, and manufacturing supplier visits (domestic and international)
- Clearly communicate expectations for work output and completion dates to technical team members
- Facilitate communication and collaboration across engineering, operations, validation/testing, sales, and external suppliers to meet very aggressive cost, schedule, and quality goals.
- Present project status to the executive team
- Track and report on weekly progress towards development milestones
- Identify and resolve conflicts, inter-dependencies and program issues quickly and efficiently
- Schedules and monitors NPI activities, from design kick-off, tooling, engineering builds through mass production.
- Act as point person to ensure key program decisions are made; using discretion to personally make the decision or delegate/escalate.
- Facilitate decision making and raise to management when necessary, following a reasonable escalation path
- Work with design engineers and engineering leaders to create clear resource plan for the program based on schedule and technological development
- Identify and resolve gaps in available resources to complete projects
- Prioritizing tasks and resources for multiple projects
- Create and controls detailed budgets for each phase in the development process.
- Drive on-going process improvements (new processes or procedures) to improve execution and efficiency of cross functional teams
- Develop and maintain checklists for the program throughout its development lifecycle.
- Ensure each program follows the organization’s procedures, but also exercise judgment and critical thinking when established procedures do not apply
- Bachelor's degree in Materials or Manufacturing Engineering is preferred. Degrees in other engineering disciplines, such as Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or sufficient relevant experience will also be considered.
- An experienced project manager with a proven track record of managing multiple projects from concept stages, to install and commissioning equipment within a manufacturing environment, preferably with 3+ years of experience is desired
- Must have prior experience working with casting suppliers and preferably tooling
- Automotive experience is not a pre-requisite. Experience in the specific field described previously is the requirement, regardless of what sector or industry that experience was obtained. Willingness and dedication to working in a fast paced, results oriented environment focused on fundamental engineering excellence.
- Must be well-versed with using Microsoft projects, primavera or a similar project management software
- Travelling to meet suppliers is key for this position, and therefore the applicant must be willing to travel internationally at least 30% of the time
