Legal Counsel, Global Contracts (EMEA)

The role

Equinix is seeking a Legal Counsel, Global Contracts (fluent in German). This role works within a global team and from time to time will handle global deals as well as EMEA-related work. This is an EMEA – based role, with the candidate primarily responsible for advising the business in alignment with Equinix’s commercial, corporate and strategic objectives, and risk profile, in a manner that supports the business objectives for the EMEA business, with a particular focus on Germany. 

 What you'll do

  • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating Customer and Supplier Contracts to ensure contracts protect Equinix and are approved. Handling customer and Supplier accounts in EMEA and liaising with colleagues across the region. Handling Customer and Supplier negotiations which may be with counterparts across EMEA and elsewhere globally. Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a variety of  agreements. 

  • Being responsible for management of the full deal cycle, including communicating status of contracts. Overseeing development of and approvals for deals, working with others on the team and coordinating with various departments (e.g., sales, finance, tax, procurement and insurance) and stakeholders. 

  • Analyzing requests for information (including RFQs, RFPs, and RFIs), advising  leaders on how best to respond, and drafting responses to ensure quick, accurate, and comprehensive responses.  

  • Providing legal advice and responding to queries relating to contracts, including handling dispute resolution  and/or insurance claims if required. Advising on legal rights; working closely with and providing strategic guidance to the business, including senior management across the organisation. Providing ancillary advice for Sales and procurement on various issues including early contract termination, novations, price increases, renewals, amendments, customer rights, and ensuring changes are properly documented. 

  • Working with external counsel where required, conducting due diligence related to customer and supplier agreements in M&A transactions.   

  • Collaborate with other regional teams globally within One Legal to coordinate for an overall approach. 

  • Identify opportunities/potential risks to the Equinix business, work closely with senior members of the legal team and other internal stakeholders to implement and drive initiatives and guidance and participating in global projects. 

  • Maintain existing deal database and ensure clear and concise updates for operational excellence. 

  • Being sensitive and staying updated on the deals and corporate guidance in order to contribute to, impact and analyze opportunities for the Company. 

  • Conducting presentations, training and educating the global OneLegal team and business team.  

  • Providing commercial support and advice to the wider legal and business team supporting ongoing joint ventures and M&A activity; working with the corporate and real estate legal team, products legal team and collating and communicating knowledge among support teams and the broader legal team, as necessary.   

  • Functioning as part of the wider global legal team, including engaging with other departments, providing input, undertaking any global projects, initiatives, deals, corporate or other commercial transactions as may arise or be assigned.  

  • Reporting on matters regularly to the Senior Director, Global Contracts, EMEA in accordance with agreed parameters.  

What you'll need

  • 5+ years PQE lawyer preferred with some solid law firm experience. 

  • Some in-house experience (either in a full-time role or by way of secondment experience) and experience of working in an international business environment is desirable. Comfortable with working in a matrix environment.  

  • Adaptable, flexible, pragmatic and solution-oriented, you are curious and willing to learn and try, and work in an agile fashion. You are prepared to work globally in the digital and information age.  

  • Fluent in German and English. You are articulate, with great communication and drafting skills and are highly effective in either language. 

  • Competent, accurate, proactive, resourceful, independent, organised, able to prioritise effectively to meet deadlines, address risk, achieve results, an effective time manager, strong interpersonal skills with a focus on teamwork and an ability to foster/manage relationships across multiple departments.  

  • Prepared to use technology tools.  

Location  

  • Located in Frankfurt or another Equinix location in Germany. 

  • Prepared to travel outside the home office location for occasional work assignments.
