Finance Intern

DHL Express UK Ltd are currently looking to recruit a Finance Intern on a 12-month fixed-term placement contract. Throughout the placement you will receive exposure to the wider finance teams along with other key business departments, increasing your overall business knowledge and acumen.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

As part of our commitment to your development we will be offering a varied and challenging 12-month undergraduate industrial placement. It is a “hands on” role where you will have the opportunity to take on critical business tasks and support with key business projects. You will gainin access and exposure to activities and tasks covered by core finance teams including customer accounting, governance, financial control and finance quality. Working alongside a variety of experienced finance professionals makes this is a fantastic opportunity to gain holistic experience within the finance department of a leading global company.

Throughout the 12 month placement, tasks and activities may include but are not limited to:

Customer Accounting

·Understand the E2E process from customer paperwork submitted for Customs clearance through to the billed invoice to assist in building the knowledge in the Customer Accounting teams and linking this process knowledge to our queries.

·Support the Debtor Risk Programme for 2024 to identify risk areas and drive action plans to reduce debtor risk.

·Support Customer Accounting Teams with continuous improvement initiatives to aid query reduction efforts.

Governance

·Supporting and tracking the progress of initiatives undertaken to manage balance sheet risk, ensuring that the integrity of DHL’s balance sheet is maintained.

·Supporting the remediation of identified gaps in processes and internal controls, ensuring that DHL is assessed as being well controlled with the appropriate evidence to substantiate this.

·Supporting other functions in the payment of expenses and supplier invoices, ensuring that key controls are maintained over these payments in accordance with company policy.

Financial Control

·Support with month end close activities and monthly forecasting process to ensure all deadlines are met.

·Support the annual budgeting cycle, ensuring a robust and efficient process and that all deadlines are achieved.

·Work with the Controlling team, supporting all DHL Express UK functions with insightful, quantitative reporting and analysis to be used in the decision-making process.

·Support with investment proposals and reporting and tracking of investment project spend throughout the duration of the project.

·Ensure compliance with regional finance rules, processes and deadlines.

Finance Quality

·To manage and analyse complex data, identify root causes and propose corrective actions, identify and communicate opportunities to embody Best Demonstrated Practices.

·Support the department with improving processes, productivity, and quality via Continuous Improvement initiatives.

·Assist the Finance Quality Team to action and track progress against key initiatives and goals, sharing regular updates with CA SMT regarding Performance, Quality and Efficiency objectives.

·To self-develop key skills and enhance your own knowledge through Learning & Development, training, and coaching.

Skills, Experience and Educational Background:

·Recent graduate or currently enrolled in a university degree programme within a Finance, Economics or business discipline

·Obtained a minimum of a 2:1 or on track to do so

·Excellent skills in Excel, PPT and Word

·Excellent Communication Skills - Verbal / Written / Listening

·Strong customer service and stakeholder relationship skills

·Strong Planning / organisational skills, and ability to use initiative and work under pressure, prioritising workload where required

·Good timekeeping with flexibility in working hours to meet the demands of the business

·Good presentation skills

·Excellent analytical skills
