Executive Director, Global Health & Sustainability Communications

About the Role

Location: Basel, Switzerland
As the Executive Director, Global Health & Sustainability Communications, you will drive integrated communication support to the Novartis Global Health function including access to medicine, Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Novartis foundations, health equity initiatives, internal and external communications for the President of Global Health and commercial communications for Sub Saharan Africa. Your experience should bring innovative ways to optimize the communications strategy across enterprise and organizational lines, to garner consensus and ensure alignment of messaging and advocacy, contributing to the organization’s overall impact!
Key Responsibilities:
• Serve as the business partner for Global Health & Sustainability Leadership and advise on communications topics as part of the Global Health leadership team.
• Counsel the President of Global Health and guide the development of high-impact internal and external executive communications. including strategy, messaging, talking points, presentations, questions and answers and function-level communications. Has responsibility for Global Health town halls, placement in external conferences, media, and creation and execution of the President, Global Health LinkedIn strategy.
• Develop, execute, and measure the communications editorial strategy that highlights Novartis Global Health as a key competitive advantage. Proactively seek, bring to life and scale Global Health stories. Execute with a strong newsroom mindset and editorial strategy to cut through with stakeholders across all internal and external channels – from content for our intranet and other digital tools, to awards and thought leader media outlets.
• Ensure engagement and inspiration among all our community around the world by spotlighting and celebrating the work of our people both internally and externally, attracting new talent.
• Continuously research and evaluate competitors and evolving global ESG trends. Stay informed regarding emerging issues and best practices.
• Partner with Financial & Corporate communication teams to inform their communities of Novartis ESG accomplishments and partner with Novartis ESG offices and create the annual reports.
• Work with country teams to develop and execute communications plans that support Novartis global, US and China Foundations.
• Drive awareness of Novartis’ access to medicine and Global Health equity programs, positioning the company as leading in these areas.
• Responsible for managing Corporate and Commercial Communications for Sub-Saharan Africa, including product launches, medical breakthroughs, progress and establishing the Novartis reputation.

Role Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in statistics, mathematics, economics, engineering, information management, social sciences or business / marketing related fields.
• Extensive communications experience focused on ESG communication strategy and campaigns.
• Familiarity with frameworks such as SDG's, reporting standards such as SASB or GRI, and ratings agencies such as MSCI
• Demonstrated financial acumen and experience supporting investor relations. ·
• Possess an established network of ESG/CSR colleagues from whom you can seek advice.
• Experience building integrated marketing communications programs, and driving outcomes across traditional media, digital and social channels.
• Proven ability to work within teams to develop successful multi-faceted communications programs that reach across teams, functions, and geographies with demonstrated experience in pharmaceutical industry as a plus.
• Outstanding media relations skills and relationships, with experience engaging reporters on a regular basis.
• Experienced in providing communications counsel to senior management.
