We’re looking for an exceptional and experienced Engineering Manager to manage and grow the Snowflake query processing team in Berlin, Germany. The team is responsible for building new SQL features and customer-facing functionality, developing novel query optimization and query execution techniques for industry-leading performance.

AS AN ENGINEERING MANAGER AT SNOWFLAKE, YOU WILL BE EXPECTED TO:
- Lead a growing team of talented engineers in the design, development and support of a highly-parallel and fault-tolerant SQL database system
- Hire great engineers and build an outstanding team
- Support engineers in their career development by providing clear feedback and developing engineering leaders
- Translate product requirements into engineering work for your team
- Collaborate with other local and global teams/leaders in the Engineering and Product Management organizations
- Use your strong foundation as a technical leader to reliably deliver on complex projects while keeping the quality bar high
- Foster a culture of creativity and innovation while also promoting practical decision-making
OUR IDEAL ENGINEERING MANAGER WILL HAVE:
- 8+ years of hands-on software engineering experience
- 3+ years of engineering management experience
- Strong database fundamentals including SQL processing internals experience (query compilation, optimization and execution)
- Proven experience in managing projects (ideally using JIRA), and authoring and reviewing project scope-, design-, and test-plan-documents
- A track record of recruiting and leading technical teams in a demanding talent market
- Extremely strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Outstanding written and oral English language skills
- Background in large scale data processing systems, e.g., Hadoop, Spark, etc.
- Prior experience running SQL database engineering teams
- Proven experience with authoring product roadmaps.
- Experience in operating a service and conducting root cause analysis (RCA) of issues
