Gen Re currently offers an excellent opportunity for a Data Reporting Engineer, to an appropriately qualified individual within the Global IT Services. This role may be performed remotely within the United Kingdom, but the individual must be able to report on-site into our London, United Kingdom office in a hybrid approach, as needed. This role could also be located in Stamford, CT, USA as a hybrid role.

Main Purpose of the Role

The Data Reporting Engineer is a member of the Enterprise Data Services (EDS) organization within the Global IT Services. In this capacity, the candidate will be part of Data Reporting Services and will work with teams of passionate and skilled data engineers, architects, and analysts responsible for building batch and streaming data pipelines and support all the analytics, business intelligence, data science needs across the organization.
The candidate must be highly collaborative, organized, and analytical, and is expected to partner effectively with other teams within IT, multi-vendor IT services, business, and service units on an ongoing basis

Data Reporting EngineerResponsibilities

-Engage in the evolution of Data Reporting based on the strategic objective of being a data-oriented and analytics-driven company.
- Collaborate with business function owners on defining requirements for Power BI focused reporting solutions, while being considerate of backend data requirements.
- Work in close cooperation with other EDS teams, using the company data sources and tools aligned with the Gen Re Data Strategy.
- Development may include maintenance and refinement of existing Power BI solutions, providing guidance on creation of Power BI content, and taking part in new or ongoing Power BI projects.
- Interact with business and IT teams to define business needs, refine requirements, and design and develop Power BI based solutions.
- Requirement gathering may involve analysis of legacy QlikView, MSBI, or BOBJ reporting solutions.
- Develop Power BI solutions, following established standards and best practices, tailored to proposed designs through the requirement gathering processes.
- Provide input to persistently evolve Power BI standards and best practices, to be advocated by IT and leveraged company wide.
- Develop organizational knowledge of key data sources and be a valuable resource to people in the company on how to best use Power BI to pursue company objectives.
- Utilize Azure DevOps in the delivery of solutions by internal and external development teams.
- Collaborate on transitioning reporting solutions from legacy systems to modern stack.
- Performance analysis review, presenting findings, and proposing solutions, in an organized manner.
- Keep up to date on the industry’s best practices in data and advanced reporting.
- Keep up to date on the latest Power BI and Power BI impacted advancements.

Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in Computer Science, Information Systems, a science or engineering discipline or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.

- The ideal candidate will have a combination of skills with IT, interpersonal communications, requirement gathering, analytics, storytelling, and insurance or re-insurance knowledge with an advanced technical or computer science degree.
- Significant work experience leading the designing, building, testing, and maintaining of Power BI applications.
- Significant experience working in cross-functional teams and collaborating with business stakeholders in support of (multi-)departmental initiatives.
- Advanced reporting and analytics skills, including debugging, data manipulation, visualization, and storytelling.
- Advanced knowledge of Power BI and how to use it effectively.
- Creative and innovative thinking.
- Ability to network and be recognized as an expert in reporting and analytics systems across a variety of business and IT roles.
- Ability to deliver high-volume, high-quality work, and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to partake in discussions, presentations, and training with both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong experience with Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service.
- Experience with Power BI focused external tools (e.g., Tabular Editor, DAX Studio, Power BI Helper).
- Strong experience with relational database and Power BI focused programming languages including SQL, Power Query, DAX, and M-code.
- Experience with data modeling and modern stack technologies (e.g., Azure Databricks, Azure Data Lake, Azure Data Factory, Azure DevOps).
- Experience transitioning legacy reporting into modern stack technologies.
- Strong experience in producing maintainable work products.
- Strong experience in documenting solution critical information.

Additional Experience/Skills Desired

- Experienced in software development life cycle methodologies (e.g., Agile) and current technology industry best practices.
- Experience in implementing Actuarial concepts (e.g., pricing, currency conversions) into analytics and reporting systems.
- Experience in Insurance and Reinsurance industry
- Experience in sourcing from different legacy systems and flat file formats (e.g., xlsx and csv).

For Applicants in the USA

Salary range: $91,000 - $152,000. The annual base salary range posted represents a broad range of salaries around the U.S. and is subject to many factors including but not limited to credentials, education, experience, geographic location, job responsibilities, performance, skills and/or training.
