ORGANIZATIONAL UNIT
The Telecommunication Standardization Bureau (TSB) fulfills the objectives of the Union relating to telecommunication standardization, by providing secretariat support to groups studying technical, operating and tariff questions and facilitating the adoption of Recommendations in these areas with a view to standardizing telecommunications and information technology on a global basis. In order to achieve these objectives, the Telecommunication Standardization Bureau works in accordance with the instructions of the World Telecommunication Standardization Assemblies (WTSA), Telecommunication Standardization Study Groups and the Telecommunication Standardization Advisory Group. TSB, headed by an elected Director, provides the technical, administrative and logistic support for the assemblies and for the meetings of the groups mentioned.
The Study Groups Department (SGD) is responsible for facilitating, managing and supporting the work of the ITU-T study groups in the development of global telecommunication standards (ITU-T Recommendations) and other documents and databases related to standardization. It provides the counsel and secretariat for the Sector's study groups, focus groups and other ad hoc groups. Particular attention is given to "Bridging the Standardization Gap", i.e., to strengthen the participation of developing countries in the standards making process. The Department maintains close relations with the ITU Radiocommunication and Telecommunication Development Sectors and takes part in their work as required. Likewise, it cooperates with other global standards organizations such as ISO and IEC as well as recognized industry forums and consortia.
TERMS OF REFERENCE
Under the supervision of the Project Officer, the intern will actively participate in activities related to Gender Affairs and Sustainable Digital Transformation initiatives:
- Contribute to the development of a work plan for the Network of Women (NoW) in ITU-T, focusing on promoting gender equality, and provide support in monitoring and implementing planned actions.
- Contribute to the creation of mentoring and training programmes aimed at empowering women participants in ITU-T meetings.
- Conduct research on gender issues and digital inclusion to inform and improve gender initiatives.
- Help organize events that promote gender equality and women's empowerment within ITU-T.
- Update website contents and other communication channels (training will be provided).
- Support activities related to Sustainable Digital Transformation initiatives and other related projects.
- Draft and edit reports, briefings, executive summaries, PowerPoint presentations, to effectively communicate key findings and progress.

QUALIFICATION REQUIRED
Education : University degree in gender studies, environmental sciences, international relations, economics, political science or relevant field OR education in a reputed college of advanced education, with a diploma of equivalent standard to that of a university degree in one of the above-mentioned fields.
: Advanced level of English (additional UN languages such as French or Spanish are a plus).

Please note that a non-remunerated Internship position at ITU does not carry the same conditions of employment as a Short-term or a Fixed-term position. Mandatory Medical Insurance, travel expenses, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of the interns or sponsoring institutions.
