Your work environment

The headquarters of the AXA Group (GIE AXA) brings together our corporate activities. It provides guidance and support to subsidiaries around the world, to ensure the coordination and monitoring of the Group's global strategy, the application of its standards, the consistency of commercial approaches and the sharing of best practices. Job Purpose

The Group Sustainability Team has the 3 following missions: 

  • Be the Group’s strategic driver on Sustainability, including acting as an influencer with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Oversees implementation and operationalization of the Group’s Sustainability Strategy through a dedicated network of Sustainability Officers.
  • Coordinates the Group’s sustainability-related disclosures to ensure coherence and consistency with market standards and compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.

The delivery of the Group Sustainability team’s mandate requires active coordination with and support from AXA Group Operations and several other Group functions, including Group Strategy & Investor Relations, GIA, GRM, Group Underwriting, Group Legal, Group Compliance, Group Public Affairs, Group Finance, Group Human Resources, Group Brand, Group Communication & Engagement, Group Media Relations & Reputation, etc.

Dimensions

  • The scope is global, spanning AXA Group and its entities in 50+ countries, both emerging and mature economies.
  • Leadership support for operational effectiveness & control on sustainability-related topics:
    • to identify, prioritize, develop initiatives;
    • to support the development of action plans and KPIs/targets;
    • to monitor & report progress against commitments;
    • to support AXA representation within coalitions/alliances to (re)define the standards on sustainability (e.g. UN organizations, ORSE, EpE, Institut de la Finance Durable, etc.).

Context & Major Challenges

  • Get challenged by/Challenge top management, central functions, entities/Markets (including CEOs and GLN network) and external stakeholders (e.g. investors, clients, partners, NGOs) on the orientations and approach to implement the Sustainability Strategy.
  • Capacity to absorb current trends/upcoming regulations/customer/investor/partner demands and expectations to identify what should be implemented at AXA.
  • Be proactive and creative in an environment of constant change, competitive and complex, notably with a stringent and increasing regulation.
  • Federate, upskill and advise a large group of experts and non-experts at Group level, local level and external stakeholders to adopt a coherent, transversal and forward-looking Sustainability Strategy

Key Accountabilities

Within the Group Sustainability team, this person will support project development in the following areas:

  • Contribute to building projects through research/benchmarking, analysis of best practices and innovative initiatives, and preparation of recommendations on various sustainability matters, with a strong focus on environmental topics (e.g. climate transition, climate change adaptation);
  • Work in project mode to define objectives, timeline, roles & responsibilities, deliverables and put in place regular project monitoring;
  • Regularly liaise with internal and external stakeholders to embed sustainability in projects.

 

Key missions will include:

  • Supporting the ESG Business Development and Outreach team on day-to-day matters relating to the Group’s Climate Strategy and commitments;
  • Research, benchmarking and analysis on key sustainability topics (e.g. circular economy, planetary boundaries, renewable energies);
  • Help structure a program on Circular Economy (e.g. upskilling, partnerships, pilot projects to test the business cases, external communication);
  • Supporting coordination of the Group’s disclosures, information for reporting, external rating agencies and other external stakeholders (e.g. investors, clients, partners, NGOs);
  • Project management for key strategic projects, notably projects with strategic partners (development of “beyond business” initiatives related to environmental topics, e.g. circular economy, renewable energy, regenerative agriculture, etc.);
  • Monitor regulatory developments with internal stakeholders (e.g. Group Public Affairs, Group Legal, Group Investment, Group Underwriting, Group Risk Management, Group Finance) and bring AXA’s perspective into the debate with policymakers (e.g. the French Treasury) and trade bodies (e.g. France Assureurs) on regulatory developments (e.g. SFDR, EU Taxonomy);
  • Regular updates for Top Management on strategic sustainability matters: preparation of internal memos and presentations (e.g. presentations to the Role in Society Steering Committee (RISSC); memorandum to the Management Committee).

Your Profile

Experience and technical requirements

  • An advanced degree, preferably with a specialization in sustainability or a specific sustainability-related expertise (e.g. climate, biodiversity, social impact)
  • Prior 2-5 years of experience, preferably in the financial services sector or in a consulting firm – experience acquired in the public sector or in an NGO will also be considered
  • Interest in or prior experience working on sustainability-related recommendations, standards and reporting frameworks would be an advantage
  • Strong IT skills
  • Fluent in English and French, both written and spoken

  • Strong team player with capacity to work in transversal teams with other central functions and external stakeholders and at ease in a multi-cultural environment
