Short-Term Research Project On Cloud Computing Security

Telefonica Research is hiring for a short-term Research Project on Cloud Computing security.

Telefonica Research is a leading industrial research lab based in Spain. At Telefonica Research, we follow an open research model in collaboration with Universities and other research institutions, promoting the dissemination of scientific results both through publications in top-tier peer-reviewed international journals and conferences and technology transfer. Our multi-disciplinary and international team counts several full-time researchers, holding PhD degrees in various disciplines of computer science and electrical engineering.

We are looking for a motivated researcher to join our team of experts to work on a project aimed at improving security in modern clouds. Within this project, which can last up to 6 months, the researcher will carry out "offensive" type of work aimed at finding novel attacks (e.g., new side channel attacks), "defensive" work dedicated to improving security in the cloud (e.g., by allowing the automatic definition and enforcement of more fine-grained security policies) or a combination of both. Special emphasis will be placed on understanding possible security problems arising from new technologies, runtimes and/or recently proposed architectures like serverless computing or Web Assembly.

Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in Networking, Security/Privacy, Computer Science or any related fields (Or PhD expected in next few months).
• Experience in security and/or Cloud Computing
• Good record of research output (e.g., publications in good conferences and journals)
• Strong verbal, visual, and written communication skills.
• Ability to work in a highly collaborative and interdisciplinacy environment.
• Knowledge in one or more of the following technologies (e.g., containers, lightweight VMs, orchestrators, serverless computing, confidential computing, eBPF or WebAssembly)
• Background and experience in building systems and conducting experimental work (e.g., methodologies, software, testbeds, etc.) in one of the areas listed above. 
• Proficient in programming languages such as C, C++, Python
