Siemens Technology (T) is seeking a dynamic leader for our Research Group “Sustainable Automation Solutions” in Vienna, Austria, part of a global Technology Field ‘Future of Automation’ with teams in USA, China, India and Germany. We aim at transforming the technology trends in automation into the business of the future and creating value for our customers. We work closely with different Siemens business units, across domains and regions, to solve real customer problems by bringing innovation on top of the Siemens automation portfolio. The right person will have a strong technical background in IT and OT technologies and a passion for designing industrial solutions from a connectivity / driver level up to SCADA and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), from concept to completion!

You will do applied research in the area of industrial software and automation systems with a focus on intelligent workflows and SCADA systems.

• Deliver innovative integrated solutions that bring together multiple research assets and technologies on top of the Siemens automation portfolio for specific industrial use cases and vertical market segments in co-creation with Siemens customers
• Actively contribute to the Technology Field’s strategy and roadmap and align globally to identify research challenges, validate technical solutions and accelerate business opportunities
• Drive evolving research roads for vertical and horizontal data integration, integrating industrial workflows from sensors and controllers to MES and PLM level
• Define, research, and implement data-driven solutions in manufacturing industries, integrating with MES level components for intelligent traceability, quality analytics, recipe management and workflow orchestration
• Build Siemens-internal network with business and research partners to provide comprehensive offerings, acquire projects and achieve the revenue targets
• Build Siemens-external network to research institutions, end customers and system integrators
• Be a dynamic leader who is technically sound to plan and complete research and business objectives while evolving the capability of the team
• Seen as expert in shopfloor automation with sound understanding of Siemens product portfolio (specifically from Siemens Digital Industries) and building innovative solutions on top
• Effectively handle assigned budget for the local Research Group
• Lead, mentor and develop up to 10 employees including temporary staff (contractors, students)

What you need to make real what matters.

• Master’s degree in software/system engineering, computer science, information technology, electrical engineering or similar (PhD is a plus)
• 5+ years of experience on SW product development processes for industrial solutions, and successful demonstration of key responsibilities; proven record in academia and industry
• 3+ years of experience in implementing industrial solutions in manufacturing environments, especially shopfloor integration and MES, and automation architectures (IO, controls, SCADA)
• 3+ years of supervisory experience or program/project management engagement leading teams in an R&D environment
• Skills in agile software/system engineering methodology und technologies for large-scale distributed systems, edge computing and cloud systems (AWS, Azure), e.g., microservices, event-streaming/messaging, container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes), DevOps
• Knowledge in Siemens Software solutions (e.g., Industrial Edge & AI, Opcenter, Tecnomatix ProcessSimulate, Totally Integrated Automation portfolio, PLCSim Adv.)
• Programming skills: C++, Java, Python, or similar. Target operating systems: Linux and Windows

• Capable of presenting complex technical topics in a clear and structured way, ability to moderate discussions, meetings, and projects both with upper management and research collaboration partners
• Flexibility and adaptability to work in a growing, dynamic and international leadership team
• Capability to derive based on customer needs and project status both vision-setting proposals for future technologies and detailed, realistic effort estimations for technical implementation
• End-to-end execution of projects from conceptualization to implementation, weighing impact of design choices early-on, ultimately delivering solutions according to planned cost, time and quality
• Strong background of research impact through product or services creation, publications and patents
• Excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal & written) skills in German and English
