Thesis – Use of occupant sensors for crash optimisation

This challenge awaits you:

IAV Fahrzeugsicherheit GmbH & Co. KG, a wholly owned subsidiary of IAV GmbH, offers car manufacturers a complete package: it develops occupant protection and the safety of the entire vehicle - by integrating state-of-the-art sensors and safety electronics, designing reliable restraint systems and rigorously testing them on its crash facility. With your thesis, you will support the further development of restraint system design and lay the foundations for further projects.

Your Tasks:

• On the basis of state-of-the-art interior recognition, you will determine which occupant parameters can be recognised with sufficient accuracy and how the restraint system can be optimally designed for the crash
• Crash criteria are to be compared with the parameters determined by sensors and correlations identified
• Test and model analyses
• You present your results in regular expert panels
• This final thesis forms an initial foundation for follow-up work
• Of course, you can expect a detailed induction programme

Necessary Skills:

• You are aiming for a degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, automotive engineering, physics, mathematics or a comparable degree programme
• You are interested in complex interrelationships
• You work independently and methodically
• You are a team player

Desired Skills:

• You have a good command of English
• You have an interest in vehicle safety
• You have knowledge of crash and restraint system requirements (Euro NCAP, US NCAP, UNECE, seat belt systems, airbags, etc.)
• You have basic knowledge of ASIL & human modelling
