Smart Building Consultant:

An exciting opportunity for a candidate to join Arup as a Smart Buildings Consultant working within the Smart Buildings team based in Dublin. Our Europe-wide team has members in locations such as London, Dublin, Glasgow, Amsterdam, Berlin, Frankfurt, and Madrid, all working together cohesively to deliver world class project opportunities with some of the leading organisations pushing the boundaries of data driven building design.

We work on a diverse range of challenging and interesting projects for clients in sectors such as commercial properties both for developers and tenants ranging from global technology companies to the financial services sector. We provide smart enabling design and consulting across property portfolios to identify opportunities to de-carbonise and achieve Net Zero targets, as well as working on standardising data and naming standards to provide insights and analytics opportunities to maximise value and provide the optimal user experience. Our aim is to deliver future proofed buildings that are designed to meet the expanding needs of the user whilst also working with the client team to identify ways in which data can maximising the value of their buildings.

The team works closely with other teams across Arup and is the hub for multidisciplinary working, bringing together different specialists and advisory services to suit client and project needs.

Your responsibilities:

The candidate will have the potential to grow the Arup Smart Buildings Consultancy offering within the Ireland group and also the wider Europe Region. With this role you will make an impact carrying out the following:

  • Early-stage stakeholder engagement with client teams to develop a deep understanding of their workplace needs and challenges,

  • Engage in client meetings / workshops and articulate complex technical content to reach a level of client understanding to complex subjects and arrive at decisions.

  • Produce technical data solutions, sketch out physical and data topologies, and understand their relationships.

  • Proactively maintain professional development (supported by Arup) to expand both technical and non-technical skills via both formal and on the job training.

  • Being part of the growth within the Smart / Digital buildings team to help win new projects in this area and develop our capabilities.

  • Fostering a culture of innovation, foresight, and collegiality within the team.

Your Experience, Skills and Qualifications:

The candidate will possess the following requirements:

  • A Bachelor or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related relevant discipline

  • A 3-5 years experience working on the engineering design of building control systems

  • Proven experience in the delivery of projects, producing deliverables such as detailed reports, specifications and schematics related to building control systems.

  • Have strong communication skills and proven ability to translate technical concepts to non-technical project stakeholders via effective communication.

  • Have an understanding of building systems design, the Internet of Things and systems integration, with a strong interest in data science and analytics.

  • Have knowledge and experience in the following specific technical areas would be an advantage to bring building systems and software development knowledge together:

  • existing and emerging building controls languages & protocols

  • IP and wireless networking and communication standards

  • web services architecture

  • coding and scripting languages such as Java and Python

  • buildings domain ontology development (linked data concepts)

  • semantic query systems and approaches
