Senior Compliance Counsel, Emea (M/W/D)

We are seeking a Sr. Compliance Counsel, EMEA, who will be a key member of the Global Compliance team in Tesla’s Legal organization. In this role, you will help Tesla’s fast-growing business comply with local laws and regulations, as well as Tesla’s internal policies and procedures, support Tesla’s compliance culture, and ensure that Tesla employees conduct business in an ethical manner.

Success in this role requires agility, the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, excellent judgment, and great collaboration and communication skills. This role will report to Tesla’s Director of Global Compliance.

This role is based in Berlin, and our ideal candidate will also work in close collaboration with our Gigafactory in Berlin-Brandenburg.

What You’ll Do:

• Identify areas of potential compliance risk, and develop policies, procedures, and controls to mitigate those risks
• Conduct internal investigations, as needed, of potential violations of law or Tesla policy
• Develop remediation plans based on investigative findings, and work with the business and other internal stakeholders to ensure that those plans are executed
• Support third-party supplier screenings to identify and mitigate compliance risks
• Develop compliance training plans, and develop and deliver compliance training programs
• Provide legal support to Tesla’s ESG efforts and initiatives in Europe
• Act as a trusted advisor to Tesla’s businesses and functions on regulatory and compliance issues

What You’ll Bring:

• You must be a fully qualified German lawyer with excellent academic credentials in both State Exams (Erstes and Zweites Staatsexamen), with a core background in the field of corporate compliance, including experience with risk assessments, policies and procedures, training and communications, investigations and remediation, and controls and monitoring. Candidates must be admitted to a German bar association
• Knowledge of and passion for ethics and compliance challenges facing multi-national companies
• Exposure to and interest in legal and regulatory requirements and developments in the ESG space across Europe
• You work well both autonomously and collaboratively, and are effective at juggling and prioritizing competing tasks in a fast-paced, challenging environment
• You inspire trust, forge relationships quickly with key business stakeholders at all levels, and earn the confidence and cooperation across corporate functions

• You have excellent communication skills, with a business level to near native level fluency in English and German (written and spoken). Additional European languages are a plus
