We believe that inclusion is key to understanding people’s varied healthcare needs. Together, we embrace individuality and share a passion for exceptional care. Join Roche, where every voice matters.

The Position

In Roche’s Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development organisation (pRED) , we make transformative medicines for patients in order to tackle some of the world’s toughest unmet healthcare needs. At pRED, we are united by our mission to transform science into medicines. Together, we create a culture defined by curiosity, responsibility and humility, where our talented people are empowered and inspired to bring forward extraordinary life-changing innovation at speed.

Within Roche’s Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED), Neuroscience & Rare Diseases (NRD) represents a major focus area where we are committed to realizing our long-term vision of changing the lives of patients with severe brain disorders. Our preclinical research and early clinical development activities center around common and rare indications within the four major pillars of neurodevelopmental disorders, movement disorders, dementias, and multiple sclerosis. With unparalleled strengths across diverse disciplines, Roche is uniquely positioned to lead the transformation of scientific advantages into medicines for patients with disorders of the nervous system.

The Opportunity

As the Scientist and Laboratory Head in Roche Neuroscience specializing in Neuronal Dynamics within the Systems Neuroscience Section, your primary responsibility will be to lead and manage the laboratory, ensuring the successful execution of research projects and the achievement of scientific objectives.

Your Scientific Leadership and Strategic Thinking:
Develop and implement strategic plans to advance our understanding of cellular and neuronal network functional endpoints, including channel currents, synaptic transmission and neuronal excitability. Apply your deep scientific expertise and knowledge to experimental systems ranging from expression systems, neuronal cell cultures, and human induced pluripotent stem cells (IPSCs), to acute brain slices. Implement data analytical infrastructure to interrogate large data sets and lead cross-departmental initiatives in machine learning applications toward resolving therapeutic efficacy with Neuronal Dynamics.

Project and Team Management:
Oversee the planning, execution, and completion of research projects to develop therapies in neuroscience, with an emphasis on dementia and neuromuscular disorders. Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure timely completion and successful delivery of project milestones. Lead and mentor associates and team members, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment.

Scientific Representation:
Represent Roche Neuroscience at conferences and academic forums, establishing strong collaborations with key opinion leaders in the field of Neuronal Dynamics. Contribute your scientific expertise to discussions and guide research efforts in the central and peripheral nervous system.

Who you are

Education and Scientific Experience:
A Ph.D. in Neuroscience or a related field, with a focus on Neuronal Dynamics and a strong understanding of electrophysiology. Previous experience as a Laboratory Head or in a leadership role within a research environment focused on drug development is highly desirable. In-depth knowledge of the central and peripheral nervous system physiology, and implications in neuropathology. Proficiency in laboratory techniques relevant to how changes in Neuronal Dynamics can aid in drug development, such as molecular biology, electrophysiology, and imaging.

Leadership and Communication:
Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate a team dedicated to revealing the impact of therapies on Neuronal Dynamics. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams, mentor associates, and help grow our internal and external network of experts in the field of Neuronal Dynamics.

By bringing your expertise, leadership skills, and scientific acumen to this role, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact in the field of neuroscience, particularly in the development of novel therapies for patients with CNS and PNS disorders.

If you are proud of contributing and feel you have the dedication to partnership and innovation that we are seeking, then Roche is the organization for you! Every role at Roche plays a part in making a difference to patients’ lives. If you want to work in a committed team, make your mark & improve lives, apply now!
