The eBay Controllership team is seeking a highly motivated individual with a combination of technical and operational accounting skills to join the team as a Revenue Accountant. This is an opportunity to become a member of a dynamic organization supporting eBay’s multi-billion-dollar Marketplaces platform and driving operational accounting process improvement. Ideal candidates will demonstrate their accounting and process knowledge to contribute meaningfully to a winning organization. This role is an Accountant position reporting within the Global Revenue Controlling team. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Support the month-end close by performing and validating accruals, preparing and reviewing complex account reconciliations and reserve models, and conducting fluctuation analyses.
  • Support accounting and reporting system related projects from a business owner perspective, including concept development, requirement identification, user testing, and production implementation from a process and operational standpoint.
  • Support SOX and Financial audit by ensuring controls are properly documented, driven and any changes are updated appropriately
  • Be a trusted and relevant Controlling partner to cross functional groups such as Finance, Accounting Policy, Tax, Legal, Shared Services, Systems and local Accounting and Business teams
  • Conduct ongoing reviews of accounting processes, internal controls, and overall effectiveness to drive process improvements through automation, streamlining and standard methodologies towards a vision of World Class Controlling and collaboration across the CAO organization.

The success of this role will largely be dependent on the ability to manage and collaborate with various partners and ensure month-end processes and accounting systems are functioning as designed in accordance with the accounting and reporting requirements of the Controllership team. The model candidate will demonstrate a sense of problem awareness, the skills for critical thinking, an ability to break down and improve accounting processes, systems, and data, and a vision for future needs.

Basic Qualifications:

Candidates must be self-starters with a solid work ethic and possess the following:

  • 3+ years’ progressive accounting operational experience, including revenue accounting (Tech industry and/or public company and/or Big4 public accounting experience a strong plus).
  • University degree in Accounting or Finance. CPA certification a plus.
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills, and experience applying these skills to resolve operational accounting process and system issues.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP (specifically revenue recognition guidance), SOX, and standard accounting processes and controls.
  • Advanced Excel knowledge (Pivot Tables, v-lookups, etc.). Automation experience with tools such as Alteryx, a plus.
  • Experience working with large data sets and/or data warehouse reporting tools (Business Warehouse, Tellius, Tableau, etc.) preferred. SQL knowledge (basic to intermediate) a plus.
  • Effective communication skills - including the capability to listen to the needs of others, articulate issues in a clear and concise manner, and present findings as well as recommendations in both oral and written presentations.
  • Customer focus and the ability to effectively collaborate and influence in a cross-functional and/or matrix environment, including working with all levels and in multiple locations.
  • Comfort with initiating and responding to change; problem solving and demonstrated ability to leverage systems to improve accounting processes and controls.
  • Ability to set priorities, handle multiple tasks, work independently and deliver results in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
  • Experience with ERP systems (SAP a plus).
  • Alignment on eBay’s cultural values.

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment in California, Washington, or New York is expected in the range below.

$88,000 - $137,500

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
