About the role:

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the Indirect Tax Workstream as part of a Tax engine implementation project (Vertex) in conjunction with our ERP upgrade to S/4HANA (project Magellan). The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the Technology implementation and will be collaborating with the regional Indirect Tax Manager, Tax Technology Manager, cross-functional teams, software vendor and integrator to achieve project objectives. This role requires a strong background in project management. Experience with ERP, Tax engines and indirect tax processes is a plus but not a must.

 

    Your key responsibilities will be:

    • Project Management (planning and execution):
      • Unite the multiple BSC functions (e.g. Tax, GBS, Magellan, IT, etc) to have an united “BSC” vision, strategy and recommendations to system integrators. 
      • Develop, maintain, drive and execute a comprehensive project plan, considering timelines, resource allocation, and dependencies. Builds team ownership and commitment to project plan.
      • Estimate project levels of effort and resource requirements by using standard estimating techniques and tools, and by working with appropriate staff (or system integrator) to understand scope of effort.
      • Build understanding of tasks necessary to complete the project (in an agile manner)
      • Collaborate with key stakeholders to define project scope, objectives, and deliverables.
      • Ensure full alignment with other ongoing projects, especially the upgrade from SAP ECC to S/4HANA (project Magellan)
      • Direct project execution by assigning tasks, tracking project schedules, identifying risks, and developing and executing contingency plans.
      • Identify and manage project dependencies and critical path items while ensuring project quality
      • Coordinate sign-off of deliverables by the right stakeholders
      • Assemble project core teams, roles and responsibilities
      • Establish the governance model and schedule and prepare kick-off meetings, status calls and governance meetings
      • Monitor open items and timelines
      • Keep a log of issues, follow up with responsible parties and draft mitigation plans
      • Develop and execute a communication, escalation, and change management strategy
      • Provide direction to the project’s integrator on all project management activities
      • Communicate project status by preparing standard status reports, and by participating in project status update meetings.
      • Resolve project issues by working with team members, project customers, and others as appropriate.
      • Consult with internal project groups by sharing project management knowledge.
    • People Management:
      • Manage (multi-site) cross-functional development teams; lead teams effectively; provide input to functional managers on team and team member performance.
      • Facilitate effective communication and coordination among team members, ensuring everyone is aligned with project goals.
    • Risk Management:
      • Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure project success.
      • Proactively address challenges and obstacles that may arise during the implementation process
    • Quality Assurance:
      • Implement robust testing procedures to validate the accuracy and effectiveness of the integrated tax engine solution.
      • Work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure compliance with industry standards and internal requirements.

     

     

    What are we looking for:

    • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Technology, or a related field.
    • Minimum of 3 years of project management experience
    • Experience with the agile methodology to deliver tested capabilities in 3 to 6-week sprints is a plus
    • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
    • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Solves complex and diverse problems, takes a new perspective on existing solutions and exercises judgment based on the analysis of multiple sources of information using specialized knowledge of various alternatives and their impact on the business
    • Works independently within broad guidelines and policies, receives minimal guidance
    • Explains difficult or sensitive information to facilitate productive discussion; works to build consensus
    • Regularly leads discussions and makes presentations in cross-functional meetings, effectively presenting information to explain recommendations and implications
    • Ability to be resourceful and self-sufficient – creating solutions and recommendations with limited direction and/or no pre-defined conclusions.  Hold oneself accountable to results.
