The Robotics and Discrete Automation division supplies products, solutions and services to increase productivity and ergonomics. The Global Solution Center for Consumer industries is located in Huizingen, Belgium and specializes in robot-centric automation solutions for e-commerce, retail, fresh food, non-food and express parcel segments. As part of the Research & Development team at the global solution center you will be directly involved in the development of modular applications that are offered as alone standing solutions or which will be part of larger engineered solutions for ABB end-customers.The Project Manager will take the lead in the execution of portfolio projects in the R&D team including component and application research, testing, development, pilots, specific implementations and ensure that all related activities are performed in accordance with technical requirements, validation documents, ABB policy, contractual agreements, quality standards, health, safety & environment requirements, financial targets, as well as schedule commitments. On top of that you can actively contribute to on-going developments by being engaged in customer tests ensuring our developments meet customer requirements.The development team consists of a diverse mix of development functions in robotics, software, vision and controls. In your role you will work and interface with all these functions and expected to actively provide input and feedback on on-going developments.
Your responsibilities
- Document, communicate and discuss test results with the multidisciplinary R&D team and propose/integrate improvements
- Actively engage in customer tests and demos with preparation, configuration and active testing. Assist customer face-to-face meetings to provide technical background. Schedule and Coordinate customer demos
- Drive the transition from simulation and emulation to real digital twins of our robotics applications to provide more meaningful, reliable and visual results
- Work with most recent developments in machine vision, artificial intelligence, machine learning. Interface with selected ABB vision and AI partners to develop competitive applications
- Create test protocols and validate with the development engineers
- Maintain democells
- Support sales requests and meeting with customer
- Follow up and work together with Solutions/proposal engineers on pilot implementations
- Coordinate Safety/risk and according to certification
- Coordinate pilot projects and planning
- Report and schedule Proof of Concepts
- Work on and adapt UML schematics, flowcharts, interface specifications and communication diagrams
- Interface with the product management to create user and product documentations for end-customers, integrators and internal ABB colleagues
- Builds and maintains strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and effectively communicates with all stakeholders, including management and customer reporting
- Define a project plan including scope and financial plans, schedule, risk management and HSE
- Effectively monitor and control project progress and efficient resource utilization
- Monitor and control project financials, overseeing project invoicing status, cost, expenses
- Identifies, qualifies, quantifies and manages project risks, and ensures that all opportunities are identified and pursued
- Capture, analyze and share lessons learned throughout the project

Your background
- Educational background in one of following fields: a bachelor or master degree in applied mechanics/electronics/information technology, industrial mechanics/electronics (or equivalent by experience)
- Team player
- Extensive experience in project management in an international environment, preferably in industrial automation engineering
- A customer minded person with strong interpersonal and people management skills
- Outstanding planning & organizing skills
- Result oriented, stress resistant and hands on mindset
- Very good communication skills (oral and written) in Dutch or French and English. German being an asset
- Fluent in Dutch or French with a good knowledge of English
- A good knowledge of MS Office and MS Project
- Willing to travel 10% for short business trips
