Production Development Engineer

As a Production Development Engineer, you will drive improvements in production of products in Electrification Smart Power (ELSP) in Richmond, Virginia.As a Production Development Engineer, you will drive lean and continuous improvement activities related to production processes in the ELSP Richmond facility. Your focus will be on optimizing the production process through innovation in a safe and cost-effective way. This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of ABB’s Power Protection, which focuses on developing power distribution, STS and UPS solutions for data center and critical power applications.

Your responsibilities

• Build plant lean culture by influencing, collaborating, and communicating with all levels of employees
• Defines the working phase sequence of a new production and/or service procession process in order to achieve the targeted product or service cost and the equipment investment budget
• Ensures appropriate production methods, service provision, cycle-time, equipment performance, and materials/components in support of production and/or service provision targets
• Identifies and recommends improvement opportunities and implements improvement projects, ensuring adherence to timeframe, quality, and cost requirements
• Ensures the production and/or service provision process complies with the project targets. Approves the design for processes developed internally or externally and performs final tests with respect to the project
• Provides support to production and/or service provision during the internal/external process/equipment start-up, commissioning, defining action plans, and training relevant maintenance and production/service resources
• Evaluates new process technologies to improve productivity, service, quality and cost reduction, defining and leading testing activities, approval criteria and external provider choices
• Work with cross-functional teams to develop technical documentation
• Achieve highest safety levels in the plant

Your background

• Bachelor’s degree in industrial, Mechatronic, Electrical Engineering or related field
• 2-4+ years of experience in lean manufacturing or operations or engineering
• Ability to work within and/or lead cross functional teams and influence decisions
• Fast learning/aptitude in manufacturing software and hardware tools CAD/ProE/Windchill/SAP, etc.
• Knowledge of value stream mapping, IPC 620, Kaizen, Gemba, 6S, and other lean tools
• Team player with excellent interpersonal skills and a customer-oriented mindset
• Prior experience with production processes (Line design, Layout, Automation, Lean projects)
• Excellent project tracking and detailed planning skills
• Able to present technical information
• Up to 5% limited domestic travel may be required
• Experience with ERP systems, SAP preferred
• Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
