range of subjects. With its six faculties and its interfaculty centres, it offers a broad spectrum of scientific disciplines
and internationally outstanding profile areas, supported by the administration with its services.

The Granular Matter Group investigates the microscopic
mechanisms that determine the collective mechanical
properties of large particulate systems. Cement and concrete
are materials whose rheolo-
gy during hardening and whose final
material strength are dependent on mechanisms that are
studied in granular physics. In a current experiment on the
International Space Station (ISS), concrete samples were
mixed and will be analyzed back on earth after months of
hardening in microgravity.

YOUR TASKS

» Sample analysis of a recent ISS experiment by Ul-
trasound, CT, SEM

» Analysis of microstructure
» Calibration of Clinostat and Random Positioning Machi-

ne experiments based on ISS experiment results
» Theoretical analysis based on cement rheology
» Coordination of work between UzK and project part-

ners at University of Duisburg-Essen, DLR Cologne,
Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts

» Publication of results in journals
» Presentations at conferences

YOUR PROFILE

» PhD in Physics, Materials Science or equivalent
