PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES
The Cloud Architecture and Engineering (CAE) Unit within the Global Cloud Services (GCS) organization is looking for a PhD candidate in the research area of mathematical optimization to optimize SAP’s Cloud Infrastructure and increase its utilization and reliability. The successful candidate will perform research with a highly visible academic partner and transfer the results into a world spanning industry scale cloud infrastructure.
We are currently extending our research and innovation team to transform our automation framework to be future-proof for the increasing demand on SAP cloud offerings. We are working on concepts to modernize our system architecture to be scalable, performant, and reliable by leveraging state of the art virtualization technology (e.g. containerization, K8S).
EXPECTATIONS AND TASKS
As a PhD-Student in the field of mathematical optimization, you will undertake research towards crafting novel solutions for large scale optimization challenges arising from a multitude of real problems of datacenters. Learning new skills together with the willingness to grow into new technical areas is very important for a successful PhD.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
- Master's in computer science or Math, preferred fields of study: non linear optimization with scientific interest regarding the topic placement optimization of entities in datacenters, in which the dissertation will be written
- Strong programming skills in C/C++, Matlab, Python/R
- Mixed Integer (nonlinear) Programming, Optimization solver (Gurobi)
- Strong oral and written English skills are essentially
- Knowledge and experience in solving challenging engineering/science, parallel computing problems is a plus
