Purpose of Role:     

Reporting directly to the Factory Manager, the Asset Care Team Leader/ Head – Plant Engineering (ACTL) position is a technical role with primary function in execution of both planned/scheduled and unplanned/breakdown work. The role is accountable for the efficient and effective use of all maintenance resources and materials on a designated crew. The ACTL is charged with the development of the craftspeople assigned to ensure the site has a well-trained, effective, and efficient maintenance workforce. From both a planned and unplanned perspective, the goal is to remove obstacles that prevent the effective and timely execution of maintenance work and to emphasize and implement safe work practices.

The position provides essential managerial leadership in the areas of Safety, Plant Maintenance (Utilities, Process and Facilities), Asset Performance, Manufacturing Excellence, CAPEX Budgeting, Planning and Project Mgmt. Position requires a strong knowledge of fast paced packaging equipment. The Engineering/Maintenance Manager will need to be able to set up a 5-year Asset Care and replacement strategy, including a capital expenditure program. A strong leadership and communication abilities is critical for this role. The incumbent should be capable of innovative thinking and driven to maintain momentum while maintaining a balanced industrial climate. Must be able to prioritize and balance multiple projects, tasks and interpersonal needs in an environment that is always multifaceted. Ideal candidate must be able to work across multiple functions.

Key Outputs,

Plant Maintenance for Productivity Improvement:

  • Responsible for Safety, Quality, Food Safety and Environmental compliance on the crew they lead.

  • Plan, implement and monitor the daily maintenance plan to enhance the serviceability of mechanical/ electrical system.

  • Plan, schedule, implement and monitor the preventive / predictive maintenance to minimize breakdown - Optimising SDT to minimise EDT.

  • Handle real time breakdown/emergency effectively.

  • VED analysis of spares & maintain inventory of vital, essential & desirable spares as par analysis.

  • Maintaining asset history data & improving asset life applying analysing tools.

  • Fine tuning bottling lines to ensure error free fill level & desired labelling accuracy at rated capacity.

  • Control/Lead job execution including quality, duration, cost and thoroughness of all work under their direct supervision. Direct Mechanics in the performance of approved maintenance jobs.

  • Distribute work orders and job plans directly to those assigned to perform the task. Assign a full day’s work at the start of the shift.

  • Work with Production on any changes in duration or any other conditions that impact the schedule.

  • Ensure the orderly conduct of maintenance team members with respect to company policy and procedures compliance. 

Operation and Maintenance of Equipment:

  • Drive improved Changeover and Changeover parts management.

  • Ensure that all work; including modifications and changes to any process have a clear, valid and complete work order with all specified approvals.

  • Ensure attendance at daily Tier 1 (operations shift handover) meetings to understand the events of the last 24 hours.

  • Facilitate the Maintenance Tier 1 (Maintenance shift handover). Validate the Shift Report (Downtime issues, Completed WO's, outstanding issues to hand over/follow up on listed in RED).

  • Report out at Production Tier 2 meeting with fellow team leads with items pertaining to maintenance.

  • Bring all the escalation and support required actions to Tier 3 meeting for timely redressal and closure.

  • Review all planned job packages for labor requirements, materials, parts, methods, permits, and priorities.

  • Work in partnership with the Planner/Schedulers to understand work order backlog and priorities. 

  • Ensure efficient operation and maintenance of Boiler, Chiller, Cooling Tower, DG’s, Air Compressors, HVAC, STP, ETP, Industrial Water Supply, UF-RO etc. to ensure full scale availability of Utility equipment.

  • Drive energy saving and improvement project initiation, planning and execution.

  • Ensure Statutory compliance of factory equipment, layouts and machineries.

  • Adherence and monitoring of equipment in compliance to PCB norms.

  • Ensure accurate distribution of time and materials to specific jobs by ensuring accurate work order completion information, including failure cause, action taken, component and condition found information within SAP.

People Management:

  • Lead a team of executives / supervisors / technicians to achieve different predefined KPIs.

  • Communicate, guide, direct and monitor maintenance activities.

  • Identify skill gaps among the team and provide required training to build capabilities.

  • Inspect the daily maintenance activities and take corrective actions as required.

  • Spend at least 60% of the shift on the floor engaging with the Mechanics as the Production liaison for Maintenance.

  • Provide support and technical guidance to ensure proper job execution.

  • Provide training to Mechanics and others with respect to SAP.

  • Develop and maintain individual Development Plans as well as conduct regular 1:1 feedback session.

  • Control all maintenance crew payroll, overtime, tardiness, and absenteeism in accordance with established site standards.

Support:

  • Supervise the installation & commissioning of equipment.

  • Work closely with Quality, EHS, Production, Process Managers to ensure timely support or undertake preventive actions.

  • Co-ordinate with Procurement department to ensure availability of spares.

  • Ensure documentation is upto-date and auditable.

  • Ensure that good housekeeping and safe work practices are followed.

  • Establish Site workshop and Engineering store.

  • Own specific Equipment Centres continuous improvement in Overall Equipment Effectiveness.

  • Support innovation initiatives throughout the site bottling halls.

  • Actively lead safety awareness and information sharing meetings.

  • Drive crew engagement.

  • Devote ample time to On-The-Job (OJT) training and observation of skills exhibited by each individual to resolve where individual skills enhancements are necessary, i.e. did the job take longer than necessary?

  • Develop Mechanic core competencies in Plant Utilities.

  • Be a Continuous Learner yourself.

Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • 4-year bachelor’s degree or equivalent (preferably in Engineering or other Technical Field)

  • 8+ years manufacturing or maintenance supervision experience.

  • Hydraulic and pneumatic maintenance experience.

  • Drive systems/transmissions experience.

  • Basic Controller/Processor, Industrial Electrical Wiring, Mechanical/Electrical Devices and Circuits experience Basic Drive Maintenance, Installations, troubleshooting experience.

  • SAP experience.

  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
