Internship (6 Months - February) Strategic Partnerships And Research - (M/F)

We are seeking a highly motivated Strategic Partnerships and Research Intern to join our team for 6 months.

In this role, you will be responsible for conducting research and analysis to support the AXA Research Fund’s strategic partnership and stakeholder management functions. More specifically, you will help us to identify philanthropy trends, analyze stakeholder landscapes, and provide insights to support our portfolio monitoring development across a range of different risk topics covering environment and climate, socio-economics and health as well as geographies.

Within the Group, you will join the AXA Research Fund. The AXA Research Fund is AXA Group’s scientific philanthropy initiative. Its mission is to support independent academic research in key areas related to risk and to inform science-based decision-making to address the most important issues facing our planet.

Since 2008, the AXA Research Fund has supported almost 700 research projects led by researchers in over 300 universities in 38 countries. The missions of the AXA Fund are to finance innovative research projects to inform public decision-making and make research accessible to the greatest number of people.

As part of its mandate, the Fund engages with a range of strategic partners including international organizations (e.g. IPCC, UNESCO), world class research institutions (e.g. Cambridge University, Bocconi University, ETH Zürich), industry research centers (Swiss Re Institute), foundations (Red Cross) and many more. These partnerships complement our research portfolio by championing research around selected risk topics and targeting specific geographies (Global South). In addition, the Partnerships serve as a platform for exchange, bringing together leading minds of different research fields, to position knowledge into transformation action agendas across science, business, and public policy.

Within the AXA Research Fund, you will report to the Senior Partnerships and Development Manager and work transversally across topics to inform the Funds Strategy and Strategic Partnerships Portfolio.

What you will be doing

• Research and data analysis
  • Conduct research and analysis on research philanthropy trends and competitive landscapes within scientific philanthropy. Specifically, you will be contributing to developing a pilot program to support African Researchers in 2024 by conducting research on the current support landscape and needs.
  • Conduct research on academic institutions, think tanks, NGOs, private sector initiatives, foundations to help identify potential partners and inform stakeholder management.
  • Analyze inhouse data on current positioning of the AXA Research Fund and contribute to developing indicators for the evaluation of ongoing Strategic Partnerships.
  • Develop research reports, summaries, and presentations on different risk topics (gathering  and analyzing data from primary and secondary sources, industry reports, policy documents and online databases) to share insights with the team and inform strategic decision making on defining future thematic priorities.
  • Support collaboration across the team to ensure alignment on research objectives and findings.
• Project Management and Knowledge Dissemination
• • Support the management of ongoing partnerships by developing project plans, drafting call documents, development of briefs for steering committee meetings, event planning.
  • Provide input to the develop of strategies to bridge the science-policy gap and assist in positioning research outcomes in the right decision-making platforms.
  • Work on the production of events and publications (short summaries, policy briefs) highlighting research conducted in Strategic Partnerships together with management and Researchers.
  • Liaise with the communication team to devise internal & external communication strategies to support the partnerships all along (social media, website..)

• Master or gap students with an academic background in the field of economics, political science, sociology, sustainability sciences, communications, business administration, or any other related field
• Strong analytical and Research skills; knowledge of research methods and standards
• Ability to synthesize written output clearly and structure plans and output
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, in English, work ability in French is a plus but not required
• Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize in a changing environment, while still meeting deadlines
• Intellectual curiosity and interest in cross-disciplinary research subjects
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment as a team player
• Familiarity with philanthropy/insurance sector is a plus
