Neuherberg near Munich

We are Helmholtz Munich. In a rapidly changing world we discover breakthrough solutions for better health.

Our research is focused within the areas of metabolic health/diabetes, environmental health, molecular targets and therapies, cell programming and repair, bioengineering, and computational health. Through this research, we build the foundations for medical innovation. Together with our partners, we seek to accelerate the transfer of our research, so that laboratory ideas can reach society and improve people’s quality of life at the fastest rate possible.

Join us and use your talents and passion as we work together to drive forward scientific progress.

The Genomics Core Facility at Helmholtz Munich is recruiting a highly motivated Lab Technician (f/m/x) to join our team.

The successful candidate will mainly support our genotyping platform using an automated high-throughput robotic setup to screen cohorts with various Illumina microarrays. You will contribute to sample preparation, quality control, and primary data analysis of the gene array readout. Working closely with other team members you will ensure the timely and effective completion of projects and excellent customer support. The position also offers an excellent opportunity to learn about NGS sequencing, library preparation, single-cell genomics, and spatial transcriptomics, which are all offered at our state-of-the-art core facility.

Prof. Matthias Tschöp (Dr. Med., Dr. hc.), CEO of Helmholtz Munich:

"We believe that excellent research requires a range of different perspectives. Diverse teams reach better solutions and are more innovative in their research topics.

Establishing our Diversity Management Strategy demonstrates our commitment to ensuring an appreciative company culture based on mutual respect. We are also implementing diversity-sensitive processes throughout our whole organization."

Your tasks

  • Handling sample submissions and quality control of samples for genotyping and next-generation sequencing (RNA, DNA, final libraries)
  • Processing different Illumina arrays for genotyping and methylation (manually and/or with liquid handling robots)
  • Operation of Illumina genotyping machines (iScan, Autoloader)
  • Troubleshooting of technical problems in the sample preparation and genotyping workflows
  • Establishment of new genotyping arrays and workflows
  • Support the NGS workflow (library prep and operation of Illumina sequencers)
  • Support the seamless operation of the core (e.g., ordering, regular instrument QC, supply management)

Your profile

  • Technical school training as Lab Technician (MTA, BTA, CTA, Biologielaborant:in) or bachelor's degree in biology/biotechnology or a related field
  • Wet-lab experience and molecular biology lab skills
  • Experience in working with MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Team player with strong communication skills and a proactive mindset, able to work in an international environment
  • Written and oral communication skills in English and German
  • Prior hands-on experience with Illumina genotyping arrays is a plus (training on robotics and Illumina genotyping instrumentation will be provided when necessary)
