The advertised role is a Design Engineer; within a small R&D department, part of ABB Electrification - Installation Products division. The products being designed are Surge Protective Devices (SPDs), to protect electrical systems from disruption, degradation and damage caused by lightning and switching overvoltage’s.We undertake to protect any electrical system, so need to understand a broad spectrum of applications. The role is wide-ranging and covers many different interest areas, ensures lots of variety in the daily tasks.
Your responsibilities
- Electrical/Electronic engineering product design - Design of Printed Circuit Boards (PCBsDesign of enclosures using 2D and 3D tools (plastic/metal) and some software design/oversight for specific applications.
- Product testing and validation - Internal testing in the Nottingham test area and external testing oversight (outsourced to 3rd party global facilities).
- Documentation control, updating and releasing to manufacturing functions.
- Quality inspections of products, learning from and improving reliability of products.
Your background
- Electrical/Electronic engineering background, ideally BEng or BTEC HND background.
- Min 3 years’ experience within electrical/electronic product design and/or product testing fields.
- Team worker, able to collaborate and share design tasks to get the best result from the team.
- Knowledge of SPDs – Desirable.
- Mechanical design experience (2D or 3D) – Desirable.
- Simulation experience (high frequency circuit design) – Desirable.
