Job Description:
Job Family Definition:
Designs, develops, troubleshoots and debugs software programs for software enhancements and new products. Develops software including operating systems, compilers, routers, networks, utilities, databases and Internet-related tools. Determines hardware compatibility and/or influences hardware design.
Management Level Definition:
Applies intermediate level of subject matter knowledge to solve a variety of common business issues. Works on problems of moderately complex scope. Acts as an informed team member providing analysis of information and limited project direction input. Exercises independent judgment within defined practices and procedures to determine appropriate action. Follows established guidelines and interprets policies. Evaluates unique circumstances and makes recommendations.
Role:
- Work on the Pachyderm Core team. Core team own's the Data Driven Pipelining system, as well as all the supporting services for HPE Machine Learning Data Management Software https://www.hpe.com/us/en/hpe-machine-learning-data-management-software.html
- Write software in the Go programming language.
- Work with Postgres, Object Storage, and Kubernetes to build filesystems, version control, queuing systems, and other infrastructure services supporting the AI at Scale business unit.
- Design and implement new functionality including APIs, storage schemes, and distributing processing systems.
- Use Slack, Notion, and GitHub to coordinate asynchronously with other engineers on a fully remote team.
- Debug and fix defects identified by our support engineers.

Qualifications:
- 2+ years experience building software.
- Good understanding of data structures and algorithms. Analyzing the complexity of algorithms is necessary to design systems in this role. You know what O(n) means.
- Strong programming skills. Going from design to implementation is easy for you. You know at least one programming language (doesn't have to be Go) well enough that you could solve any problem with it.
- Excellent written communication skills. You are comfortable working on a fully remote team, and integrating feedback from multiple parties asynchronously. You are effective at explaining and convincing others of your ideas through writing.
Nice to Have:
- Experience programming in Go
- Strong Systems Design Skills. You can conceive of multiple ways that a system could work, and compare the costs and benefits of each approach, before writing any code.
- Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or Natural Sciences.
