Purpose of the position

 

The Director of Maintenance Development and Training at GSD plays a critical role in achieving the company's strategic objective of expanding the percentage of total products under contract and enhancing global maintenance and repair services. This involves setting up a virtual academy to train frontline staff, utilising modern applications to elevate safety, quality, efficiency and satisfaction levels for both customers and employees and to facilitate the cross training and enable onboarding of new employees in a structured and managed way.

This role is new and it can be done from any of the GSD locations within Europe.

Main tasks and responsibilities

 

Maintenance Process Development:

 

  • Continuous Improvement: Collaborate with Digital Business Development, Spare Parts Organization, GSC, and QHES to continuously improve and optimise maintenance processes and workflows.
  • Root Cause Analysis: Identify development needs in GSD processes and tools, conduct root cause analyses, and propose solutions to enhance operational efficiency, particularly in manual handling.
  • Implementation Management: Oversee the implementation of necessary process developments, ensuring seamless integration with connected areas.
  • Global Planning Solution: Implement an efficient and user friendly global planning solution for more efficient resource utilisation, tracking progress, and reporting on the success of improvement plans.
  • Line Manager for the FSM Coordinator

 

Training Academy:
 

  • Virtual Academy Setup: Establish a virtual academy to develop and ensure engineer competency, with a focus on standard onboarding courses, initial skills evaluation, basic training, and safety awareness.
  • Modern Training Approach: Develop a modern approach to product training, incorporating both classroom induction/examinations and hands-on training in specialised centres of excellence.
  • Guardianship Framework: Create a framework to ensure appropriate training, retraining, and cross-training based on evolving skills needs. Monitor and control certification while overseeing the utilisation of qualified engineers. Activity is to be done in collaboration with QEHS management and Operations Directors.
  • Leadership of the GSD training team: keeping up running the existing trainings and developing new ones.

 

Service Contracts:
 

  • Concept Development: Innovate and develop new advanced service concepts to grow spare parts, maintenance, and projects business globally, capturing market growth and increasing the share of the existing customer wallet.
  • Digitally Centred Agreements: Support the Development and management of digitally centred service agreements aimed at optimising customer operational costs and maximising uptime.

 

Other Responsibilities:
 

  • Interface Streamlining: Work with CBS to streamline interfaces, ensuring efficient communication and collaboration.
  • Project Participation: Participate in other GSD projects as requested, leveraging expertise to contribute to overall business objectives.
  • Compliance and Travel: Ensure compliance with Cargotec Code of Conduct, Operating Principal Management Handbook, QEHS Policies of MacGregor, ISO9001, ISO14001, and OHSAS18001. Occasional travel may be required.
  • The Director of Maintenance Development and Training will be instrumental in driving global development in maintenance and repair services, training programs, and service contract innovations, aligning with GSD's strategic goals and maintaining high standards of compliance and efficiency.

What you’ll need to succeed


Education:
 

  • Technical degree or equivalent, coupled with a strong commercial background.

 

Experience:

 

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in maritime operations, demonstrating a deep understanding of the industry.
  • Proven experience in influencing and communicating effectively in a multi-country environment.
  • Leadership experience, with a track record of successfully managing and leading teams.
  • Previous experience in process development, particularly in the context of maintenance and repair services.

 

Competencies:

 

  • Process Optimization: Demonstrated ability to continuously improve and optimise complex processes related to maintenance and repair services.
  • Communication Skills: Strong communication skills both in writing and verbally, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and concisely.
  • Influencing Skills: Proven ability to influence stakeholders at various levels within the organisation to drive positive change and achieve strategic objectives.
  • Technical Proficiency: Experience using ERP systems and advanced proficiency in spreadsheet tools like Excel, Google sheets.
  • Data Analysis and Finance Understanding: Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions. Understanding of finance principles related to maintenance and repair services.
  • Language Proficiency: Fluent in English, both written and spoken.

 

The ideal candidate will bring a unique combination of technical expertise, commercial acumen, and leadership skills to the role. They should have a solid track record in optimising processes, influencing teams in a diverse, multi-country setting, and possess the ability to effectively communicate complex concepts. Proficiency in using ERP systems, data analysis, and financial understanding are key components of the role, aligning with the global and strategic nature of the position within GSD.
