Jobbeschreibung

The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (www.fraunhofer.com) currently operates 76 institutes and research institutions throughout Germany and is the world’s leading applied research organization. Around 30 000 employees work with an annual research budget of 2.9 billion euros.

Who we are ...
Our primary focuses at Fraunhofer IWES are on wind energy and hydrogen technologies. Our institute is home to more than 300 scientists and employees as well as around 150 students from over 30 countries pursuing careers in applied research and development at seven sites. We secure investments in technological developments through validation, shorten innovation cycles, accelerate certification procedures, and increase planning accuracy by means of innovative measurement methods.

This team is looking for you ...
You will be part of the group »Technical Reliability« at our site in Hannover. The aim of the group is to improve the reliability of wind turbines and optimize both operation and maintenance. This involves analyzing operation and maintenance data from more than 10,000 wind turbines, with a consistent focus on the function of the overall system. At present, the team consists of six research associates. We support each other irrespective of our projects and backgrounds. A culture of open exchange and cooperation, even beyond team boundaries and sites, are particularly important to us.

What you will do

These duties awaiting you ...
You will prepare and analyze field data from wind turbine operation and maintenance. You will also model operating and failure behavior of wind turbine components so that faults can be identified early on. Additionally, your duties will include conducting root cause analyses on individual components and on the entire system. You will develop methods for new data products and visualize them. You will also be responsible for communication, data sharing with external parties and data management. We would be happy to see you bring your own ideas to the table and develop them.

A diverse working day is guaranteed!
You will be introduced to project management by becoming involved in a range of projects. Over time, you will also take the lead on specific work packages and/or projects. You will prepare applications for publicly funded research projects and look after new industrial contracts. But do not worry, you will be introduced to these processes gradually and with the support of the team. You will also be responsible for documenting your own work, writing project reports and working on publications.

What you bring to the table

What is your specialist background?
You have completed your diploma or master’s degree in the field of Data Science, Engineering (ideally with a focus on Mechanical or Electrical Engineering) or a similar discipline? Do you understand the technology behind wind turbines? Are you already familiar with statistics and analyzing data sets? Fantastic! Maybe you also have experience in condition monitoring, or even reliability modeling or operation and maintenance simulation? Great, please do read on!

Your profile is complemented by ...
Do you know how to use MATLAB, Python or another programming language? Experience of machine learning would be ideal, but do not worry if your skills do not cover all of these areas. We can help you start your career or, if you are more experienced, give you room to develop. At IWES, we operate at an international level and work on both national and international projects, which means that we communicate in both German and English. It is important that you can speak at least one of these languages fluently.
