Gen Re currently offers an excellent opportunity for a Data Governance Lead, to an appropriately qualified individual within the Global IT Services. This role may be performed remotely within the United Kingdom, but the individual must be able to report on-site into our London, United Kingdom office in a hybrid approach, as needed. This role could also be located in Stamford, CT, USA as a hybrid role.
Position Description / Requirements
The Data Governance Lead is a member of the Enterprise Data Services team within the Global IT Services reporting directly to the Head of Enterprise Data Services. In this capacity, the candidate will manage and work with teams of passionate and skilled data managers, engineers, architects, and analysts responsible for building batch and streaming data pipelines, as well as support analytics, business intelligence, and data science needs across the organization.
The candidate must be highly collaborative, organized, and analytical, and is expected to partner effectively with other teams within IT, business, and service units on an ongoing basis.
Data Governance Lead Responsibilities

- Drive the development and execution of a comprehensive Data Governance program, including the creation of a framework encapsulating data quality, security, privacy, and lineage in a modern data architecture environment.
- Design and implement Data Governance tools, processes, and controls to monitor and measure compliance.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure Data Governance initiatives are integrated and aligned across the organization.
- Lead the development and maintenance of data catalogues, data dictionaries, and metadata repositories to support data usage and understanding.
- Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of Data Governance efforts, adoption metrics, and identify areas for improvement and innovation.
- Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to develop, deliver, and oversee initial and ongoing Data Governance trainings.
- As an enterprise data champion, engage with stakeholders to communicate the data vision and strategy, lay the groundwork needed to foster ongoing success and acceptance, understand and address pain points, diplomatically overcome resistance to adoption, and demonstrate the value.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, advocate for the use of DevOps in solution delivery, and stay updated on industry best practices in Data Governance and management.
Qualifications/Experience/Education
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in Computer Science, Information Systems, a science or engineering discipline or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.

Experience/Skills Required

- The ideal candidate will have a combination of IT skills, Data Governance skills, analytics skills, and insurance or re-insurance knowledge with an advanced technical or computer science degree.
- Significant years of experience designing, deploying, and managing Data Governance projects and initiatives.
- Significant years of experience working in cross-functional teams and collaborating with business stakeholders in support of a (multi-)departmental initiatives.
Creative and innovation thinking.
- Ability to network and be recognized as an expert in Data Governance systems across a variety of business and IT roles.
- Ability to deliver high-volume, high-quality work, and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to lead discussions, presentations, and training to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong experience with Data Governance tools such as Azure Purview.
- Strong experience in producing reproducible work products.
- Experience in agile methodologies and capable of applying DevOps principles to data pipelines and analysis to improve the communication, integration, reuse, and automation of work products.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with and across diverse experiences and prospectives of data owners, data stewards, data science teams, and IT teams.
- Demonstrated an understanding of data privacy laws such as GDPR.
Additional Experience / Skills Desired
Experienced in software development life cycle methodologies (e.g., Agile) and current technology industry best practices.

Salary range: $117,000 - $195,000. The annual base salary range posted represents a broad range of salaries around the U.S. and is subject to many factors including but not limited to credentials, education, experience, geographic location, job responsibilities, performance, skills and/or training.
