Jobbeschreibung

City: Aachen Date: Mar 6, 2024 BA/MA/PA-Thesis: in the field of clamping fixtures

The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (www.fraunhofer.com) currently operates 76 institutes and research institutions throughout Germany and is the world’s leading applied research organization. Around 30 800 employees work with an annual research budget of 3.0 billion euros.

In cooperation with the Chair of Laser Technology LLT, the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT offers the opportunity to write a thesis.

The trend towards hydrogen technology requires the efficient production of bipolar plates. A gas-tight plate is produced from two stainless steel half-shells. Due to the complex contour and long connection, laser beam welding is used here. For this purpose, a technical zero gap must be created between the joining partners using clamping devices. This is decisive for the quality of the resulting weld seam.

The aim of this work is to design and subsequently construct a clamping device for an existing model of a bipolar plate. To reduce the handling and cycle times, a dynamic clamping concept is developed which is able to ensure the feeding of the bipolar plates for the high-speed process developed.

Previous knowledge of laser technology is desirable, but not a prerequisite for carrying out this work.

What you will do

  • Development of a clamping concept for the realization of high belt and process feed speeds
    • Scientific investigations
    • Literature research of relevant publications & studies
    • Carrying out tests
    • Analysis, evaluation, processing and presentation of the results

What you bring to the table

  • You are a student of mechanical engineering, physics or a related subject area
  • Interest in technical problems and enjoy practical, experimental and analytical work
  • Interest in laser technology and the further development of manufacturing processes for electromobility and hydrogen technology

What you can expect

  • A practice-oriented thesis in an innovative working environment
  • Supervision of your work by experienced researchers
  • A creative and interdisciplinary working environment in a highly motivated team
  • Flexible working hours for a better work-study balance
  • Very good transportation options (bus; car)

The position is limited until the completion of the thesis.

We value and promote the diversity of our employees' skills and therefore welcome all applications - regardless of age, gender, nationality, ethnic and social origin, religion, ideology, disability, sexual orientation and identity.
