Job Summary
Join the Minnesota Department of Health's (MDH) Facilities Management team to work in a position designed to provide coordination and implementation of space allocation changes within MDH facilities. As the Agency Space Planner, you will provide project management, analysis, and planning for offices, storage, laboratory, and workspaces to meet the agency's short-term and long-range business needs. This key role will also support the Director of Facilities Management in the planning and development of new and existing space at MDH to support the leasing strategy and needs of the agency.
Additional responsibilities include:
  • Leading and administering the agency's implementation of the statewide enterprise facility database.
  • Evaluating existing processes, anticipate needs, and make recommendations for change.
  • Determining appropriate work methods, facilitate change, and developing clear and thorough written procedures for implementation.
  • Managing all requests for the assignment of workstations and offices at all MDH district office locations as needed for new hires, transfers, or move/relocation requests.

This is a hybrid telework position; however, it will be based on the business needs of the unit and is at supervisory discretion.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience in facility or property management, construction oversight, space planning, real estate management, or project management.

Additional minimum qualifications to be assessed during the interview process:
  • Experience with project management, building operations, and/or related facility administrative duties.
  • Knowledge of software packages such as AutoCAD to research, evaluate and recommend appropriate furniture and equipment purchases to meet Facilities Management needs.
  • Ability to read construction drawings to review and/or prepare layout plans and provide instructions to warehouse furniture and equipment installers.
  • Ability to prepare cost estimates and materials lists, and coordinate construction schedules.
  • Knowledge of contract procedures, work measurement, and management techniques .

Preferred Qualifications
  • Technical school or college-level courses in architecture, business, planning, business management, space planning, real estate management, or project management.
  • Experience with institutional planning, facility program development, space standards and space utilization, building codes, and basic architectural principles.
  • Experience with measurement processes and methods for assessing progress toward achieving objectives of projects or plans.
  • Advanced proficiency using software such as AutoCAD, CET Designer, Revit, AIM, or FAMIS.
  • Proficient in Tableau and Excel, with the ability to create Excel pivot tables, and create graphic visual documents.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to position self into low and high positions to take accurate field measurements.
  • Capability of moving through buildings (MDH facilities) to take accurate field measurements or to provide project management, analysis, and planning for offices, storage, laboratory, and workspaces.
