The Department of Chemistry at Technical University of Darmstadt has a vacancy in Quantum Chemistry for an

Administrative-technical Teaching assistant (all genders) – 80%

to be filled by 01.04.2024 at the earliest in a fixed-term employment relationship until 31.12.2025. The position is classified according to pay group 13 of the TU Darmstadt collective agreement (TV-TU Darmstadt).

The tasks include the creation of digital teaching materials in the project Jupyter4all, in which an interdisciplinary team from engineering, natural sciences and linguistics works in cooperation with the University IT Center and the University and State Library. Jupyter4all will provide students with access to the university's computing and storage resources via Jupyter notebooks.

The employee will design, implement and refine Jupyter notebooks for use in B.Sc. and M.Sc. programs in Chemistry. He/she will build on existing teaching materials in classic and digital form, and will also have the opportunity to contribute his/her own ideas to the concrete implementation of the project. Specifically, he/she will create teaching materials for teaching basic chemical concepts as well as basic and advanced content of theoretical chemistry and use them in teaching.

The employee should have great enthusiasm for university teaching and its digitalization. Working in an interdisciplinary team and with students will benefit from strong communication skills. In order to test and improve the materials based on the students’ feedback, the employee will be involved in teaching in undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

A degree in chemistry from a university and a doctorate in quantum chemistry are required. Very good knowledge of quantum chemistry is required, i.e. fundamentals and applications of Hartree-Fock and density functional theory as well as post-Hartree-Fock methods for the description of electron structures and properties of molecules and complexes. A very good knowledge of fundamental concepts of chemistry, such as ligand field theory, and their connection with observables and experiments is expected. Furthermore, knowledge of a Linux and high-performance computing environment as well as documented experience in programming with Python, Julia or Jupyter Notebooks is required. Fluency in English is required. Experience with Moodle is helpful.
