Jobbeschreibung

The Correlative Electron Microscopy Laboratory of the Institute of Neuropathology is seeking an

Electron Microscopy Researcher (Postdoc) (f/m/d)

for our BMBF-funded research project “NanoPatho"

limited for 1.5 years, fulltime | salary according to TV-L

The University Medical Center Göttingen is a tertiary care center and offers great de-velopment potential. Its 7,900 employees work in over 65 departments and facilities to provide top-quality patient care, excellent research and modern teaching. Göttingen, “City of Science", located near the center of Germany, the University Medical Center Göttingen is embedded in the city’s attractive network of scientific research facilities.

The Institute of Neuropathology of the University Medical Center Göttingen is offering this postdoc position for our research project “NanoPatho", an ultrastructural 3D investigation of cortical brain lesions in multiple sclerosis (MS) patients. The aim of the study is to map the nanoscale events that lead to neuronal damage and loss in grey matter lesions using correlative tomographic EM microscopy workflows to understand the pathomechanism(s) involved.

The Institute of Neuropathology is a Europe-wide reference center for inflammatory diseases of the central nervous system. It is organized into routine diagnostics for patient care and several research groups.

The newly established Correlative Electron Microscopy Laboratory is equipped with three high-end 3D electron microscopes; a Serial-Block-Face-SEM, a FIB-SEM and a tomographic (S)TEM, as well as a state-of-the-art X-ray microscope and STED microscope. Various cryo-sample preparation techniques are available, including high-pressure freezing, freeze- substitution, and cryo-ultramicrotomy.

Your responsibilities:
  • Studying MS tissue samples using high-resolution tomographic electron microscopy (SBF-SEM, FIB-SEM, tomographic (S)TEM).
  • Establishing pioneering multi-modal correlative electron microscopy workflows, integrating X-ray microscopy and STED microscopy.
  • Collaborating with external and internal partners on the topic of multi-modal correlative microscopy.
Your profile:
  • A PhD in cell biology, neuroscience, structural biology or equivalent field.
  • At least one year of EM experience, including specimen preparation.
  • A solid understanding of the principles of scanning and / or transmission electron microscopy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A creative personality who enjoys team work.
Our offer:
  • A TV-L 13 full-time position for 1.5 years, funded through the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF).
  • Outstanding research and training opportunities in an exceptionally well-equipped laboratory for correlative electron microscopy.
  • To work in an interdisciplinary team at the interface between development and clinical application.

We look forward to receiving your application, including a CV as well as the names and contact details of two references.
