Jobbeschreibung

Computational modeling of the heart using mathematical descriptions of the underlying biophysics can lead to better diagnosis and personalized therapeutic approaches. At KIT’s Institute of Biomedical Engineering, we seek a PhD student to study the natural pacemaker of the heart – the sinus node. Multiscale electrophysiological models and simulation will be performed to elucidate physiological mechanisms in healthy conditions as well as those underlying diseases. The primary focus will be the prevention of sudden cardiac death in dialysis patients.
Simulations will be performed in openCARP, a e-research infrastructure funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) among others. The candidate will contribute to the further development of this research tool and engage in its user community.

The KIT mission combines the three strategic lines of activity of research, higher education, and innovation. With about 9,300 employees and 26,000 students, KIT is one of the big institutions of research and higher education in the natural sciences and engineering in Europe.

You are an open and ambitious team player happy to take responsibility and motivated to strive for creative, open and sustainable solutions? We provide a cooperative and communication-oriented environment in the Computational Cardiac Modeling group at the Institute of Biomedical Engineering. You completed a Master’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering and information technology, applied mathematics, physics, or similar with above average grades and are motivated to pursue a doctorate?
You have experience in programming, care about your work and are motivated to work in a multidisciplinary team, have good communication skills as well as a good command of English?
In the best case, you have experience in some of the following areas: modeling & simulation of cardiac electrophysiology, cellular biology, python programming, C++ programming, software engineering, continuous integration, containerization, research data management, open science.
