Jobbeschreibung

Are you interested in learning more about the biomechanisms of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)? Do you agree that experimentally validated computer models will help optimizing current TMS-applications in basic and clinical neuroscience? Join us for an excellent research opportunity for your postdoc studies! The Institute of Anatomy and Cell Biology of the University of Freiburg offers a

NEMO-TMS Postdoc position (m/f/d)

We invite applications for a Collaborative Research project in Computational Neuroscience (CRCNS; funded by NIH and BMBF) on the development of an experimentally validated multi-scale Network Model for Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (NEMO-TMS 2.0).
This is a joint project with the labs of Alexander Opitz (Minnesota, USA), Gillian Queisser (Philadelphia, USA) and Peter Jedlicka (Gießen, Germany) building on our multi-scale modeling toolbox for TMS (Shirinpour et al., Brain Stimul. 2021).
Our part of the project focuses on combining functional optical imaging techniques, electrophysiology (single-cell and extracellular recordings), opto- and chemo-genetics with single pulse and repetitive TMS in cortical slices. Dedicated setups and tools for carrying out these experiments are available in the lab. Close interactions with our collaborators (including visits to their labs) are an essential part of this project, which aims at informing the development and validating NEMO-TMS.

What we look for:

  • a highly motivated and enthusiastic candidate with an excellent PhD degree
  • a strong background in neuroscience
  • experience in functional optical imaging, electrophysiology or computational neuroscience
  • excellent communication skills in English

What we offer:

  • 3-year postdoc position, with the opportunity to extend for another 2 years in accordance with the German public service salary scale (TV‐L E 13)
  • an exciting research project involving cutting-edge translational techniques in a collaborative setting
  • specific training in modeling and application of TMS in vitro and in vivo
  • an efficient mentoring program
  • an interdisciplinary teaching program, including courses in novel technologies and soft skills for postdocs
