Actuarial System Engineer (m/f/d) *

Munich Re’s Central Life Reserving unit is responsible for the reserves held in the Life and Health Reinsurance Portfolio. We empower reserving actuaries across the globe to provide actionable analytics on business and reserve developments relevant for decision making. We expand and improve our capabilities for analyzing and understanding risks. We drive the development and implementation of an integrated actuarial analysis and reporting platform and we constantly safeguard the availability of high quality data for the reserving processes.

Over the next few years, a key task for the department will be the implementation of valuation and reporting according to IFRS 17 and IFRS 9 accounting standards. In order to support central and local valuation units with a modern and automatized reporting infrastructure, a new team “Systems and Development” was set up.

For this team we are looking for someone enthusiastic about driving forward his career in an inspiring environment where actuarial, data analytics and IT topics meet each other. You will have a solid track record in one of these topics and be passionate about developing the others as well as working in agile projects with a diverse international community of highly qualified teams.

Your job

  • Developing and implementing valuation and reporting requirements from 8 international valuation units in an agile project set-up
  • Identifying technical options for new solutions and assessing them for both technical architecture and business suitability
  • Designing, building, testing and deploying new solutions; owning development from design to implementation
  • Implementing change requests for the existing applications incl. testing, documentation and deployment
  • Collaborating with other teams (e.g. Valuation, Life, IT etc.) to integrate systems
  • Developing and maintaining technical documentation
  • Acting as technical expert for the Central Life Reserving systems
  • Setting-up training for actuarial teams
  • Leading or supporting IT related projects and tasks within the department

Your profile

  • University degree in information technology or mathematics, or equivalent work experience
  • Several years experience in the design and development of Java applications
  • Strong experience with front-end development, preferrable Angular
  • Several years of technical architecture experience in the design and development of client-server applications
  • Very good technical knowledge of the Microsoft Azure cloud environment (Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, CI/CD deployment) or serious motivation to quickly develop these skills
  • Familiar with relational databases, data models and data structures or serious motivation to quickly develop these skills
  • Familiar with other programming languages (e.g. SQL, R, Python)
  • Working collaboratively and effectively in an international group dynamic, proficient in agile ways of working
  • Very strong analytical and conceptual skills combined with the ability to explain complex relations in an understandable way, good problem-solving abilities
  • Strong command of spoken and written English
