Traineeship/ Internship – Motion/ Video Design

EMBL is Europe’s flagship laboratory for the life sciences – an intergovernmental organisation with more than 110 independent research groups and service teams covering the spectrum of molecular biology. EMBL now has an outstanding opportunity for a paid internship for an early-career motion designer. Suitable for a highly motivated and enthusiastic graphic arts disciple, this position will allow you to work with a team of communications and creative experts to visually explain the very processes of life in their natural context. What you will do:

• Edit and create videos for the EMBL website, social media accounts, media pitches, and presentations
• Contribute ideas for visually engaging animated content
• Collaborate with communications experts, scientists, and project managers to create visually outstanding videos
• Incorporate UI/UX best practices in videos and animated file formats like gifs, and adapt designs for different formats

Successful candidates will come to the role with a strong background in visual storytelling and motion graphic skills:

• Prior experience in creating videos and a solid grasp of visual concepts
• Comfort working with editing software like Adobe Premiere, Adobe AfterEffects, Final Cut pro, Motion Graphics etc.
• Graphic design skills are an advantage
• Enthusiasm for the creative process and ability to meet different project goals
• Ability to work in a collaborative group environment
• Ability to juggle multiple projects and carry out creative problem solving
• Proactive, self-starter, good work ethic An excellent command of spoken and written English is essential.

• Knowledge of other languages, particularly French, German, Italian or Spanish, is a plus.
• A passion for science is advantageous.
