EMBL is Europe’s flagship laboratory for the life sciences – an intergovernmental organisation with more than 110 independent research groups and service teams covering the spectrum of molecular biology. EMBL now has an outstanding opportunity for a paid internship for an early-career motion designer. Suitable for a highly motivated and enthusiastic graphic arts disciple, this position will allow you to work with a team of communications and creative experts to visually explain the very processes of life in their natural context. Your role
What you will gain from this internship:
- Unique experience within an international research environment
- Mentorship from our experienced communications leads and learning how to apply visual storytelling skills while working within a busy in-house communications team
- Learning to work with corporate templates while expanding assets within EMBL’s corporate framework
- Build a broad portfolio of work for various communication channels and audiences
What you will do:
- Edit and create videos for the EMBL website, social media accounts, media pitches, and presentations
- Contribute ideas for visually engaging animated content
- Collaborate with communications experts, scientists, and project managers to create visually outstanding videos
- Incorporate UI/UX best practices in videos and animated file formats like gifs, and adapt designs for different formats

You have
Successful candidates will come to the role with a strong background in visual storytelling and motion graphic skills:
- Prior experience in creating videos and a solid grasp of visual concepts
- Comfort working with editing software like Adobe Premiere, Adobe AfterEffects, Final Cut pro, Motion Graphics etc.
- Graphic design skills are an advantage
- Enthusiasm for the creative process and ability to meet different project goals
- Ability to work in a collaborative group environment
- Ability to juggle multiple projects and carry out creative problem solving
- Proactive, self-starter, good work ethic An excellent command of spoken and written English is essential.
You might also have
- Knowledge of other languages, particularly French, German, Italian or Spanish, is a plus.
- A passion for science is advantageous.
