Jobbeschreibung

Working at the University Hospital Cologne and the Medical Faculty means helping to shape the future - the future of medicine, of patients and, of course, your own future. You benefit from 59 clinics and institutes as well as numerous other departments and facilities and more than 10,000 jobs. The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Cologne and the University Hospital Cologne assume important social tasks in research, teaching and patient care. A close network with many university and non-university partners guarantees an internationally successful science and the excellent education of our students.

We are looking for the next possible date

ERC funded 4 year PostDoc position (f/m/x) to study mRNA translation control mechanisms in human cardiac development and disease in the Center for Molecular Medicine Cologne (CMMC)

full-time; limited for 36 months according to WissZeitVG Third-party funded project

We study the RNA regulatory principles that govern cell fate and identity during human cardiac development, homeostasis, and pathomechanisms of cardiac diseases. We employ pluripotent stem cells and cell fate engineering (2D differentiation and organoid models) in combination with systems biology and genome editing approaches to reconstruct and investigate human cardiac development and disease. Our long-term mission is to gain a systems-level understanding of the RNA regulatory principles that shape the self-organization and homeostasis of tissue and organs in humans to develop therapeutic solutions for tissue/organ regeneration.

Your tasks
  • Studies of mRNA translation control mechanisms in human cardiac development and disease

Our recent discoveries revealed that ribosomes act as decision hubs controlling cell fate and homeostasis via proteins recruited on the translation platform and specialize mRNA translation. The project is dedicated to studying the regulatory principles and developmental function of this newly identified class of ribosome-interacting proteins in cardiac development and disease.

Your Profile

Proven expertise in studying molecular mechanisms regulating embryonic cardiac development using human pluripotent stem cell-based differentiation/ organoid models and genome engineering with at least onfirst-authoror high-quality publication with a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences. Experience in conducting pooled CRISPR screens is highly advantageous. A keen interest in transcriptomic and proteomics data analysis is desirable.

Please submit your application as a single PDF file that includes:

  • 1-2 page research proposal demonstrating your interest in RNA regulatory mechanisms controlling cell identity
  • CV (including a list of publications, extra-curricular activities, and the contact details (e-mail address and phone number) of 2-3 academic referees
Our Offer
  • Opportunity and support to develop own independent academic career
  • Stable long-term funding and state-of-the-art resources to conduct cutting edge research in RNA biology using human pluripotent stem cell-based models
  • Competitive salary, benefits, and family-friendly work culture. Possibility to work closely with startups. Possibility for spin-offs in collaboration with our industry partners

Your salary will be based on TV-L
