PhD position in "preclinical imaging of senescence during inflammation” (f/m/d) 65%

The position is initially limited to one year with plans for further extension . Inflammaging, or the slowly developing low grade inflammation process in aging organisms is now thought to be a fertile soil for a myriad of life altering inflammatory diseases. It is suspected that this progression goes hand in hand with an increasing number of senescent cells, which could give a new window of opportunity for innovative diagnosis and therapeutic approaches for chronic inflammatory diseases.

With this project, we aim at elucidating the role of senescent cells in sterile chronic inflammation, in particular during rheumatoid arthritis. By developing an innovative state of the art preclinical imaging approach based on combined PET/CT and PET/MR imaging of senescence, the successful candidate will shed a new light on inflammatory diseases. We fully expect that this work will contribute to the establishment of clinically translatable multimodal diagnosis and therapy monitoring imaging techniques.

We are looking for enthusiastic and highly motivated candidates, eager to answer highly relevant biomedical questions and evolve in a multidisciplinary environment notably using state of the art imaging techniques. The candidate should ideally possess scientific expertise in inflammation, cellular biology, or biochemistry demonstrated by a relevant Master of Science in the field and a keen interest in preclinical imaging sciences. Hands on experience with preclinical PET, MRI or CT imaging is a plus but not a requirement. As the project is a collaboration with Stanford University , fluency in English is a requirement.

The successful candidate can grow in a lively and interactive working atmosphere within a well-connected network of PhD students and scientists in the dynamic city of Tübingen.

We offer remuneration in accordance with TV-L (collective wage agreement for the Public Service of the German Federal States) in addition to all the customary benefits granted to employees working in Public Services.
